"Hakim" rifle

Read an article on these in an ancient Gun Digest. Sounds interesting. Anybody have/had one? What do you think?

BM 59 was a knock-off of the M1 Garand with the addition of a box magazine. We equipped Italy with Garands post WWII and they went to improve on it ....

Interesting rifle. Cocks by grabbing it by the cover, push all the way forward then pull back. I'd like to see one just to see how it works.

Re: "Hakim" rifle

Originally used by the Swedes and called the Ljungman. It was made in 6.5x55 and it is a VERY accurate rifle. The Hakim, is Egyptian and made in 8x57mm. Dansk Industrie Syndicat (Madsen) made a few after WW2 in 7.62 NATO. This rifle system is a direct impingement gas system, similar to the M16. It has a bolt carrier system and the bolt operates violently. In other words never get a Ljungman thumb. It makes an M1 thumb look tame.

Re: "Hakim" rifle

I have a 8mm Egyptian Hakim from 1969.
It is a very accurate rifle, & I have had no function problems.
The gas tube & adjustable gas valve must be kept clean so there is no impediment to the gas.
Should you find yourself down in Pearl River County, you are welcome to try out my Hakim & my Ljungman.
A wise man keeps his nose & his fingers clear of the Hakim's action.

Re: "Hakim" rifle

No link, actually read it in a real book...you know, made of paper...remember those? :p

Really liked the Ljungman, but those seem to go for a grand or more. Not that interested. But, if I happen to stumble across a Hakim for $400 - $500...

Just the very idea of a quality rifle from Egypt of all places sort of intrigues me. Just a whim...it will probably pass.

Re: "Hakim" rifle

Bought a Hakim at the Laurel gun show last year; it was my first Mil-Surp! I had read about its unique manual of arms and when I saw it at the gun show I knew I had to have it! Unfortunately the blueing on mine is pretty much gone but I think it just gives it character. The muzzle break is pretty gnarly and the overall length and heft of the rifle is fairly substantial. Also I am amazed at how simple the direct impingement and bolt are especially when compared to the AR15. However the machining is top notch; from what I understand the Egyptians were aided by the Swedes with machinery, tooling and direct technical support for production. Its definitely a conversation starter at the range.

Blessings,

Joe
