Recently prices have dropped considerably on some handguns causing me to rethink my next purchase. For instance on Bud's there's now Glocks starting at 450.00, Sig 250s starting at 361.00, and SW M&Ps starting at 454.00  Looks like some bargains compared to a couple months ago, are these closeouts and is this common for this time of year?

I consider the prices you quoted quite normal...I have not seen any particular great deals...

A bargain is in the eye of the beholder...If its a bargain to you...jump on it..

I'd say in general terms...prices have moderated on the "tac-ti-cool" Black rifle craze...everything else has kinda just maintained this year...

I'm seeing a lot more emphasis on low to mid price range handguns...say $300 - $450...lot of folks still wanna "get by" on the cheap...personally I think that's a mistake

ammo prices and reloading components have better supply now...but no bargains as far as I'm concerned

Glocks have been that in that range for years...

I don't see this "drop considerably" he speaks of...Of course I'm more more focused on higher end.

Pretty much, the only thing I've seen come down in price the last 18 months or so is AK's and Black rifles..The craze is over..they have moderated but are not cheap

Doug,

Do you not like plastic guns?[/quote]

It is the Arms manufacturers taking advantage of the shooters in this country. It costs very little to mfg a plastic framed handgun. How can you equate the pride of ownership between a Glock and a 1911 .45 or a S&W Pre 1976 revolver. There is NO comparison.

The market for poly/plastic guns exists, so of course industry is going to oblige it; and costs are ultimately driven by what any given market will support. Regardless of how anyone feels about it, the technology of modern gunmaking is here to stay and, all other things equal, it has some technical merits that are hard to ignore.

I was comparing the '10 and '11 MSRP prices from S&W, the M&P pistols have dropped in price by a good bit, I want to say about $120 but I dont remember the exact decrease. It seems like the S&W MSRP prices are the new MSRP's for the year, not just a holiday deal.

I can't say much about the above info, however I will let you guys on the fact that I have reason to believe S&W will be lowering some of their pricing soon with a new campaign... "No Bull Pricing". Whether it was part of this new campaign or not, the MSRP on the Bodyguard 380's with the lasers went down from $575 to $399 earlier this month.

Keep us posted on the sales, looking for another 1911 and wouldn't mind a smith 1911. There was a time I wouldn't own a smith auto.

Whenever I hear more about the new pricing scheme I will let you guys know. Pretty sure it's supposed to happen after the first of the new year.

True, but they pass those savings on to the consumer. More sales, higher volume, etc.

I think most modern technology stinks with the exceptions of firearms & medicine.

So maybe S&W is making a move to get back some market share?...

A little price war sure would not hurt us any. Interesting that they lowered prices on the hot item (almost everyone wants)...the 380

I think Smith has a 100th anniversary edition of the 1911 announced and coming soon....I'd rather see Colt come out with one and try and keep it around $1000 or less...That's a dream
