I just got a Mauser 98 and I’m needing help trying to determine the country of origin. On the barrel near the muzzle it has PV Arms Richmond VA, Germany 8mm stamped in the barrel. Thank you

Many many K98k were captured, left behind or purchased by Yugoslavia. They reworked them into the Zastava M98/48. The Yugoslavian crest is placed over ground down original stamps. No way to really tell who was the original manufacture now.

Don't think I've ever seen that crest. But it does look to me that the original has been removed. I'm assuming that the "44" @ the end was the year it was made?

That’s why we shouldn’t assume lol...Preduzece 44 essentially means Factory #44. These are German rifles that were left behind or captured and refurbished for re-use at the end of WWII by that Yugoslav factory for use by the new Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

You’ll find the same crest on the later purpose built M48 Mausers.
