Not at all. I carry a 5 shot revolver most of the time, so 8 seems like a lot. I've got a 70 series Gov mdl 1911 that I carry some, and I don't think a thing about it "only" having 8 rounds. But I grew up with revolvers, and that was long before these high cap semi's.

I guess thats the difference. My first gun was a glock 15rds of .40 then a g17 17rds of 9mm

It doesn't bother me. I carry a variety of different guns depending on how I'm dressing, etc and those may have anywhere from 5 rounds to 16 rounds. I never feel bothered by how many rounds I have as long as I have some. Just my opinion...

I will admit if you could design a 1911 single stack with 17 rounds of .45 ACP, I'd be all over it. ;) Since that won't be happening any time soon, I live with it.

Statistically, gunfights occur at 3 yards or less, with 3 rounds fired, within about a 3 second timeframe (source: Rangemaster, Memphis). So when the :shtf: it statistically won't require a full mag in the vast majority of the cases. Now, realizing that it can happen, I will carry an extra mag when going to places that make me nervous. Admittedly, I should have one everywhere I go, but I find ways to excuse it... "Well, I'm going to church..." or "Well, I'm going swimming..." or "Well, I'm going to the bathroom..." You get the picture.

Never bothered me...my favorite handgun made is a Colt Lightweight Commander.

9 rounds {8 rd mag, one in the chamber} of warm, crunchity .45 goodness.

I too don't always carry a spare mag...unless I'm going to south Jackson or the like.

Just a little side note.

I've noticed something over the years while out shooting with the boys. No matter what gun anyone is shooting, be it a 5 shot revolver or a high cap semi auto, most folks will stand there and shoot em til empty.

Now back on topic.

I carry a 1911 on a daily basis, and I don't worry too much about firepower. After all, like someone else said, there's been many a time I've carried a 5-shot J frame S&W, so nine rounds of .45 seems like a quantum leap forward. I also practice with the 1911 a heck of a lot, and it's more accurate for me than the J frame. When I wear BDUs, I have two extra mags in the knife pocket, so I've got 9+8+8, exactly five times the rounds of the J frame, and a whole lot easier to load into the gun.

And yeah, I admit it: if I'm going to make holes in something, I want them to be BIG holes.

Never has bothered me when I have carried a 1911 that it only had 7 or 8 rounds, If it takes more than 8 rounds it's time for me to run. :lol4:

I carry a 9mm now with only 8 rounds and don't worry about it.

If you cant solve it with 8 rounds of .45 ACP, you need to call in an air strike.

...ok so thats a stretch but it was fun to type.

No I dont feel uncomfortable at all with my 7+1 and I do usually carry one spare mag (sometimes 2). I figure that it still may be overkill considering that statistically gunfights usually end after 2 - 3 rounds are fired and I practice enough with my 1911 to end it in 5 rounds tops in a worst case scenario which is still less than 8 so I'm okay...unless of course the other guy practices more than I do.
