While I'm use to using a sling, not use to the loop on a high power match setup. Anyone have any good instructions or video links on how to use the sling in prone and sitting? Also, in standing do you rig it tight to the gun and use the extra thickness to give some extra height for your hand under the forearm to raise the rifle some?

    Thanks.

You can grasp it in standing, but I'm lazy so mine just dangles in the breeze.

Here is a handy one on web sling setup. Also, find your copy of Mr Doug’s books...he covers this pretty good.

I either don't have set up right or the sling is too short.

I'd be glad to help you with this in person but can't make this weekend's match.

Ed, pm me your email and I'll send you a scan of a few pages of Jim Owens book on slings and positions. a little dense but will get you set up right. then you just have to play with it to get length right.

Thanks for the help. It seems to be the correct length now.

Good. Pity you couldn't try it out today. Are you shooting the upcoming carbine match?

No fair. My SKS will out shoot a carbine every time. :)

No problem shooting the SKS. We usually do a second relay that is theoretically AK/SKS's, but usually a carbine or two appears as well. This match is even more casual than the regular ones. Several loaner Carbines are available if you would like to use one. Just let us know.

My carbine shoots about 4 moa. Plus I don't want to put lots of rounds through it.

If that was wolf, monarch or aguila I’d recommend trying PPU SP and Remington MC.

I see 4 moa go to 2-3 with that ammo change (still some flyers but generally better)

(If you’re not rolling your own, which I haven’t started in 30 Carbine).

Before SW Gun Club sold all of our DCM (before CMP) carbines, we held a 200 yard match. A lot of the projectiles were keyholing, and some projectiles didn't even penetrate the cardboard. My father's friends talked about how they'd "lose" their carbines as soon as they could find an M1 rifle or Thompson to replace it, these guys were WW2 vets. Interesting firearm but I'm not a fan.
