Was wondering what you folks take with you to the deer stand to entertain yourself on a long hunt. Do you usually get down during lunch time...or hunt when others are coming out of the woods

I'll be the first to admit, its pretty tough for me to sit on a stand all day...it just aint gonna happen...

Because I'm a little older now...I'll usually take a bottle to urinate in, and a pair of binocluars...at times I've taken small books to read...

Texting other camp members can be kinda fun..txting is kinda hit or miss where I hunt

was just wondering what ya'll did...in a few weeks it will be time to hunker down and get serious...and a few all day hunts might be in order

Our texting is hit and miss also but still get most through. The Internet is a no go unless you have a solar charger at least with the htc hero I use. Usually goes something like this. Othermember, where you going? Me, I have Austin with me so probably back buddy stand or doe town. Othermember, either should be a good spot. Good luck. I'll be at the crooked stand. Then a little later BOOM! And everybody sayes who shot. Get the grease hot we gonna pile-em up like cord wood. Ha I wish but that's kinda close except the cord wood part. Other than that nothing really. Text people that are trying to sleep. :)

I usually don't have a lot of days I'm able to hunt so when I do, I stay out there all day. I go by GNC and find some good nutrition bars to take with me. I have multiple places I can go on private land so I move from stand to stand during the day. I have killed a few deer transiting one area to another because I move a few paces at a time and watch for a while. Phone use is hit and miss where I am so I'm not texting. I sometimes carry a Bible or a Bible study to pass the time, the woods is an excellent place to have some quiet introspection. A hunting journal is good to have handy too. You can make notes about the day's hunt or relive past hunts. I just bought a Samsung netbook I really love for it's battery life, up to 14 hours. I may download some PDF's to read and if I happen to be in an area with cell phone reception I can use my phone as a modem for my computer, albeit slowly.

What I've found to be the biggest help is to be very comfortable. You want be still very long if your not. It's really a mind over matter thing on setting all day. Lewis L'aMour(sp?) are just the right size books.

I'll take a book and read, I try to stay off the phone because that's why I went out there in the first place. Most times I could care less if I see anything, I just enjoy getting away from everything and listening to the woods wake up or bed down depending on when I go. The quiet solitude is refreshing.

I like to sleep, haha. Thats why i have a good harness :)
but usually ill just sit there and scope out the poor lil squirrel or critter just wishin i had my 22.
Most the times its either sleep or just sit there and look around not having to care bout anything.
And then thats about the time you hear something slowly coming up behind you where you cant see it. Its starting to sound like its almost to the tree and you can just imagine its this nice buck, gettin all excited and you finally see that poor lil squirrel easing along, minding its own business. Thats bout the time when i start scopeing it out.
All in a days hunt.

I never thought bout bringing my camera, ive seen critters do some funny stuff and it would be fun to get it on camera. Good idea. Ill prolly forget the battery or memory card being my luck.

Staying on the stand is a mind over matter thing...If U don't mind...it don't matter...a boring day on a deer stand beats most any day at the office

Like some of you...one of the reasons I go to the woods is quiet introspection...so the less electronic BS I have the better...staying comfortable is big time key....especially if its raining...most of our stands don't have roofs and I like to hunt when its raining...its easier to slip in and out of the woods....those dry leaves don't make as much noise

It is kinda good to have txting available at least from a safety perspective...I luv blowing up non hunters phones early in the am

The Bible study thing is a good idea...I sho could use some of dat...

Hey Nonnie...Its funny...I see more squirrels on the deer stand than any other time...Thought I was gonna have to .308 one afternoon a few weeks ago...that dude wanted in my stand bad..if was him or me...hand to paw

I carry a book or the gameboy. Most of the stands I hunt out of are shooting houses, so on cold days a portable heater. Do take the camera, plenty of snacks and water. No cell service where I hunt!!

Did pretty much an all dayer yesterday...Had a pretty decent legal buck that I let walk..if I had not banged on Sat, I'd a busted his ass...lucky foir him...

it was swirling windy day yesterday in Bolton

For the first time in a while, I got rather cold...I can't beleive I did not see any ladies come through the plot all day

Its a mystery to me what really makes deer move

we got a couple shacks those heaters would work well in....

shacks make good naper's

a couple of protein bars and a thermos of hot coffee would have made it nice...Guess I'm gonna have to just load me up a big backpack, pee bottle, thermos, books, games, water, protein bars, tv set, heater...

need a craine now
