It's so hot that Oliver came in rather than awaiting the latest Amazon delivery driver to spook this afternoon. Yesterday I get a panicky sounding call from a female telling me that she's calling about a loose dog in the bushes. I stop her and back her up, make sure I'm the person she actually wants to talk to, since I do not have a dog. She indeed gives me my name. She then calms down a bit and explains that she's an Amazon delivery driver wanting to put packages on my front porch, but there's a dog in the bushes, waiting to ambush her, and she can hear its' tags jingling. Ah, all becomes clear (to me). I tell her I'll be right out to deal with the fierce miscreant critter. I go out front, look into the bush, and call Oliver out. Oliver is my large long haired outdoor cat. Oliver prances out to me, looking pleased with himself and jingling his collar tags. I had a very hard time not laughing. She was able to complete her deliveries and Oliver came inside to enjoy some AC and scarf some food.

She also nicely pointed out that one of my packages was leaking and offered to return it (yesterday was my monthly Amazon subscribe and save delivery day). I took her up on that, but today I get a larger box which, when I open it, has a large plastic bag, and when I open that bag, has a crushed case of Friskies soft cat food, that was presumably the contents of yesterdays' leaking box, which has by now gotten quite ripe. They just took the returned box back to the depot, dropped it into a plastic bag, to kill the smell and stop the leaking, then put it in a larger box and delivered it back to me anyway. Sigh. At least Amazon didn't quibble and is shipping me a replacement. The chife was incredible when I opened that plastic bag of hot, spoiled, cat food.
