I have a 5.56 7.5 sbr ,the thought of useing it to hunt has crossed my mind.....
Pro's
1. small gets in and out of place quite nicely...
2. It is of course a rifle round.
3. It's not that heavy to carry or climb with....
Anyways i figured I'd ask you guy your opinion.....

Not much of a hunter here; however, many hunt with a handgun. I would think this would be a good or better than a handgun -- caliber might be worth some discussion from some of the guys out there who love the sport of hunting -- what you plan on hunting with it? Deer, Varmit, etc ..

Well, you are certainly not alone - I was 16 when I killed my last deer - now, how many years ago is that, let me think -- close to 41 I guess!

MS Wildlife lets us hunt with suppressors.... I was told as long as I legally owned it and had the stamp w/ me.... it was a go. I would think the same would be true for an SBR.

Well personally I think a 5.56 is too small for deer especially with a SBR . Can it kill a deer ? Yes . Is there a high probability that you won't kill it ? yes . I think deer hunting with a 5.56 SBR is irresponsible . To me deer hunting is not a game to see what kind of gun might be able to kill a deer . I was allways taught that you need to be able to kill a deer clean with one shot and never to take a shot that you were unsure of . I love deer huntin and shootin but I hate to hear about or see someone shoot a deer and never recover it it's bad huntin morals if you know what I mean. That's my :2c:

I'm with mhead on this. unless you can "snipe" a good headshot, i just wouldn't do it. there are way to many other guns out there that are better. I've thought about doing it, then I woke up and said that .280 or 7mm would be much better.
No Go for me.IMO

mr clean are you sure that it is legal to deer hunt with a suppressor in MS? cause i would really like to get a .300 whisper w/ a suppressor and that would give me the incentive that i need...
Thanks!! :awesome:
I use a ar/sbr in 300 whisper with a can, works niceley behind my house

I had a friend a few years back that cut the tendons in his hand skining a deer. He needed something to hunt with that he could use one handed. He used an AR and limited out, and didnt have to chase one dear. Shot placement!!!!! Pouchers have used the 22WMR for years. It wouldn't be MY first choice! SBR in 243, or 7mm08, or 308from DSA.

We have killed a many of deer with .223. One shot cleanly. heck ive seen guys shoot a deer 3 or 4 times with a 7 Mag and not kill them humanely, so caliber isnt an issue until you get out to a certain distance. Ive killed deer with my .22LR with one shot, just gotta know where to place the bullet and then place it there!

Ill prolly take my bull barrel AR hunting this year just for the heck of it. First deer i killed with my .22-250 was with a Winchester 46gr HP. Shot her in the neck about 3" below the jaw, lets just say she took a dirt nap without flinching.
