I have noticed on many survival/prepardness etc forums talk about many things, but fuel is seldom mentioned and then on only in passing if it is.

So what are ya'll gonna do for transportion ? Walking long distances with any kind of load, pretty much is the pitts, trust me I did plenty of it in the Army.

The way I see it there is a 30 day supply stockpiled for when BAD days come. But remebering what I was told back in the day(in da Army)most of that supply will be earmarked for the Military to use(nation wide),so that will cut us Civvvies down to about a 1 week supply for our use.Hmmm that ain't much....or last very long

So that means YOU will have to make your own fuel or buy a horse.I'm setting up to do both.If you plan on making fuel you have 2 chioces either Ethol or diesel.Out of the 2, Gas is easier to make.Forget corn, you need alot to make gas. However sugar cane makes twice as much on less acerage with less by-product(read sluge). If I memer right(to lazy to look it up again)1 acre will make about 300 gallions of gas, corn takes 2 or 3 acres to make the same amount. Also to run it in your car it will have to be some where in the range of 140 to 160 proof, this is doable with either corn or cane....with some tickering on you car.

Now onto the prepardness/barter side of this(what can I cay,I had a brainStorm). Now most folks just can't handle bad things without getting depressed. So if it all hits da fan,you now also have a cash crop to trade......here it comes......wait for it........Moonshine !!!!!!

fuel is a major concern...our economy comes to a halt pretty quick without it...

No fuel = no work getting done...Things go down hill pretty fast

I know several folks who have converted their trucks to run on french fry oil...

but how many Mc D's fries you gonna buy if you can't ride and are hunkering down at home...

It would be a major PIA

well for the rural folks life can be a little better than for city folks, thats a fact.Cane takes awhile to grow thats a given, but so does corn. But the point of the post,is if you don't or ain't willing to make it,you walk, walking alot sucks!

You can also use cattails, grass, and other fodder. Used donuts are great for making alcohol, from what that guy says. I've thought about trying it, but I don't think I'd have the time to fool with it.

I do have a good bike, though.

WTSHTF I don't anticipate keeping any roads hot. Most of my stored fuel is diesel for the tractor and gas for intermittent generator use. Maybe go check on some people now and again but not very far. But I'm not bugging out. If you have to bug out then you'll have different requirements to work with.

For gas use stabil or something like it and change out cans or rotate fuel about every 9 months. For diesel, I've burned untreated fuel that was 10 years old, but I use PRI-D as a stabilizer even so. Maybe also an algaecide and it should be good for a decade.

Hah now we're talking see, folks are getting good tips all ready.Well, maybe the senerio shouldn't be a total :shtf: thing, more a great depression type deal. There was gas but it was rationed or used sparingly.......

As far as my horse,I'm thinking a Halflinger Mare, slow ride, but they can pull a small wagon, and they plow up a storm.A little breeding and I can get a jam up small working Mule.

Well my gas is for my generator but I have 6 five gallon tanks. Don't forget that truck you drive on the weekend or the junker your kid left you with. Keep them topped off.
One other thing I heard, probably here, with the ethanol in gas nowdays it is better to use the marine type stabil.
Wouldn't mind getting an external tank but even 50 gallons is gonna weigh about 350 lbs without the tank.
I need to get a good all purpose bike myself just to see what's going on in zombie land and if the natives are restless enough to make bugging out an option.

Some stations are now taking advantage of the public dislike for ethanol. There are a few places around my town now that have stickers or signs that advertise "no ethanol". I shop there - even though there is no good way to verify this. Service attendants won't know jack about it. Perhaps talk to a fuel delivery driver to find out?

Per Federal guidelines...pure gasoline was taken off the market this past July. we had one station here that sold it pure...not any more.

I'm skeptical that pure gas can be found right now.

Fuel does not store well for long periods of time...say past 6 months if you wanna use it to run any engines...I don't care what additive you put in it...I say 10 years is BS

No gas for an extended period of time...our economy is pretty much toast....whip out that bike u doomsdayers...strap on the 9mm....

I have an older diesel truck with all mechanical fuel injection I can modify for waste motor oil, waste vegetable oil, or biodiesel. However there is a better way that doesn't have all the problems of making your own diesel.

I will build a wood gasifier for my gasoline truck and one for a generator/welder. I figure we won't run out of trees any time soon.

There is a station in Brookhaven that, as of a few weeks ago, advertised selling pure gasoline.
