I have seen several shooters raise their barrel pointing to the sky (180 to the ground) and then proceed to shoot. When asked, many say it positions more of the powder closer to the primer. I decided to run a little test ....

Using two Garands and 1 set of reloads and 1 set of Lake City (LC-66) 30.06 surplus ammo. The results were interesting ...

an old bullseye shooters trick...course the gunpowders have vastly improved these days...but it still applies

what's funny to me is one of the most frequently used powders for bullseye shooting was bullseye powder...and it fills the case about a badly as any pistol powder I know of.....3.0 grains in a 38 special case and there's still a lot a room in there....

Don't see why it would not apply to rifles....though most rifle powders I use fill the case very well

The tricks of the trade...compeition shooters....always looking for an edge...gotta love 'em

When Eddybo is picking loads for his rifles he uses quick load software, and he tries to pick the loads that fill the case the most. Yet his mentor Don Geraci will load half case loads. You never know. Sometimes I think it comes down to what you are most comfortable with...What does that have to do with anything? It will keep you calmer and more confident when taking the shot.
