Most people don't use the proper term for a magazine. They call it a clip. A 1911 Colt uses a magazine, a Remington 510 rifle uses a magazine.

Clips are used by the following:

1. M1 Garand
2. 1903 and all Mauser bolt rifles
3. Mauser Model 1896 pistol
4. Austrian Steyr 1911 Pistol
5. Argentine Mannlicher pistol
6. Austrian Mannlicher 1895 rifles.
7. SKS

A clip holds cartridges to be loaded into the rifle or pistol's fixed magazine. The exception is the Ar15 and the detachable magazine is loaded with clips.

Just a pet peeve of mine.

THANK YOU!!!!

This is a pet peeve of mine also. I saw on a forum a while back where someone pointed this out only to be followed by taunts and jokes. Someone was trying to make a valid point and many just found it seemingly amusing.

juvenile.

+1 Dock, I have a life long friend in TX that did his time in the Army and he still calls a mag a clip. Woulda thought the Army would have beat it out of him.
We know what your talking about 99% of the time so that's not worth my time to correct them. We all got bigger things to P1$$ us off, but if you don't, my hat's off to you.

I understand newbies, but what gets me are the shops or dealers at shows incorrectly teaching newbies {or anyone for that matter}, buying a gun that it is a "clip" by referring to it as such and thereby perpetuating the inaccuracy. Some actually think people selling guns actually know what they are talking about...some do But then again...that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to misinformation at shows is'nt it...

the big things don't bother me...fact, very few things bother me...but that's one of them...and people talking during movies I paid to go see...and I don't mean whisper...I've had a confrontation or two over that. Tends to end in my favor...

sorry, not trying to derail the thread...just thinking about pet peeves

Doug, all due respect, but what are you smoking today or is this post just a test?

My Remington 510 has neither a clip nor a magazine, it is a single shot rifle!
My M1 is fed from an en bloc clip as noted, however my 1903 Springfield has a (drum roll please!) an internal 5 round magazine! Hence the term "magazine cut off!"

I'm not much into them there foreign guns so much but I do know an SKS has a clip fed magazine, just as the SMLE Enfield (aka Short MAGAZINE Lee Enfield).

FWIW, the British call a clip a charger.

If I'm not mistaken they teach you in the army a mag goes in your rifle and the clip in your pistol.
You're mistaken, they are both magazines, even in the Army. I do still hear a lot of ignorance when it comes to soldiers using the correct nomenclature, but if you refer to the TM the nomenclature is "magazine".
