Israel drastically relaxes gun laws

And you'll never guess the reason why. ;)

Hundreds of thousands more Israelis okayed to carry guns under new rules

More than half a million Israelis have become eligible to receive gun permits under a major reform of the country’s firearms rules, with the stated goal of improving the immediate response to terror attacks.

Under the new rules, which went into effect immediately upon being announced Monday, hundreds of thousands of veterans of the IDF’s infantry units will be eligible for gun permits, along with police officers who received the equivalent training.

Additionally, army officers ranked first lieutenant or higher, as well as non-commissioned officers ranked first sergeant or higher, who carried a weapon during their military service will no longer be required to return their guns and permits when they are discharged from reserve service, and will be allowed to ask to keep carrying them.

Volunteers in certain police units and in medical organizations Magen David Adom, ZAKA and Hatzalah will also be eligible to receive permits.

The reform was unveiled by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, who has pushed for allowing more Israelis to arm themselves as a response to terror attacks.

Under the old rules, Israelis had to prove a need for the firearms, such as living or working in an area considered dangerous, and undergo regular testing and training.

Under the loosened directives, individuals who have been in continuous possession of a firearm permit for 10 years will now be allowed to keep the permit indefinitely, without undergoing periodic tests to prove they still match the requirements.

The new policy was criticized by the leader of the left-wing opposition party Meretz.

Firearms “are a death machine whose civilian use needs to be reduced as much as possible,” Tamar Zandberg said in a statement. “Instead of dealing with the tremendous amount of illegal weapons on the streets endangering human lives, they are simply increasing the number of gun permits.”

However, Erdan’s office said the new regulations “significantly upgrade” the training process undergone by permit applicants and holders.

“Qualified citizens carrying firearms in public contribute to the sense of security, are an important line of defense from ‘lone-wolf’ attacks and thus strengthen public security,” Erdan said.

Many Palestinians have in recent years adopted the “lone-wolf” tactic of carrying out stabbing, car-ramming or shooting attacks against Israelis without the support or operational backing of any terror group. Thousands of such attacks, attempted attacks or planned attacks have been recorded by Israeli authorities since 2016.

Sounds like he's been to the monotonous left wing anti-gun rhetoric school in Berkley.

Is this actually from lone wolf attacks, or Israel's see something else coming?

Here, outlawing guns is practically impossible due to the sheer amount of legal guns owned. In that part of the world, I feel like it's just impossible due to the amount of guns just floating around, legal or illegal. And many are probably actual assault rifles and automatics. Digging in any random sand pile will produce something dangerous.

Hamas and other Israeli enemies are using "lone wolves" as part of their strategy to destroy Israel. They aren't "lone wolves" in the sense that we understand them in this country. Israel knows this, and is expecting more of it.

Wars are fought on many levels. Individual attackers can be just as disruptive and costly to a nation as a traditional military battle, especially if it's continuous and targets civilians.

With more people allowed to carry guns there, surely we are going to start hearing about all the school shootings that are about to be taking place....
Um, nevermind.
Teachers shoot back in Israel.

The Hajj 2018. The annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the Hajj, approximately takes place between August 19, 2018 and August 24, 2018. This duty for Muslims has to be carried out at least once in their lifetime, as long as they are physically able to take this journey and afford it.
The Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, demonstrating the solidarity of the Muslim people as well as their submission to Allah. The other four pillars are these submissions to God, fasting while Ramadan, the daily prayers, and the alms tax. The pilgrims are not allowed to cut hair or nails during Hajj. Also the use of scented products, arguing, smoking and having sex are forbidden. This state of consecration is called Ihram.

There is very little in warfare that is new, other than technology, but there is much that is not well understood.

Therefore, if the enemy prepares to defend the front, the back will be weak. If he prepares to defend the back, the front will be weak. If he prepares to defend the left, the right will be weak. If he prepares to defend the right, the left will be weak. If he prepares to defend everywhere, everywhere will be weak. Sun Tzu

"Lone wolves" are being encouraged everywhere, not just in Israel. While in the 1970s and early 1980s organized terror groups (Rote Armee Faktion or RAF in Germany, IRA in Ireland/Great Britain, ETA Basques in Spain, et al) were the main perpetrators of terrorism in Europe, now individuals or smaller groups, unaffiliated with international groups (but still declaring loyalty to such groups) are carrying out all the major attacks. For authorities it's like playing "whack a mole" chasing such people - so arming more civilians, increasing the likelihood that an armed civilian will be right there on the scene, and hopefully capable of intervening and stopping the attack, is a wise, inexpensive, time-saving strategy. Remember the "lone wolf", Gavrilo Princip who started WW1?
Most people assume every one in Israel carries an Uzi or assault rifle, most Americans I speak with were unaware that Israel has VERY STRICT gun control. Glad they are loosening the requirements for firearms ownership.

Like most people, I thought gun control for Israeli citizens was almost nonexistent or at least very loose. Glad to hear that they are loosening up the regulations for their citizenry...should help keep their citizens that much safer.

Yes, they do. Allah is Arabic for God. God is English for Elohim, the Deity that we are all familiar with. The God of the Holy Bible.(Elohim)
The Muslim concept of Allah is necessarily different than ours of Elohim. That's how they get around such pesky things like the 10 Commandments, and "Thou shalt not kill".

Under an agreement between the Israelites, kin of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, they agreed to accept Elohim (God) as their God, and they would be his people (children), as agreed between Abraham and Elohim, (The Old Covenant)
If one starts counting from the giving of the 10 Commandmants at Mt. Siani as the start, then 3,760 years later, The Christ was born. Moslems believe this too! But not that the Christ was sent by Elohim(God) to save us.
500 years later, Mohammad (The Thug), comes along, and somehow starts a religion. I've no idea how a thief/caravan robber, highwayman, became the Big Deal he is. The one thing about Islam is they don't worry about morality or virtue like we do. Very convenient for thugs and men of ill repute.

Well they call their God "Allah"; even Mohammed first asserted that the verses/"scriptures" which were being dictated to him were in fact from Satan. Hence Salman Rushdie's first big novel The Satanic Verses. Of course he changed his story and now Islam is the largest religion / social system on earth. But I digress...
Mohammed later said they were dictated by an angel (Gabriel, jibril) and these became the Quran, or Koran.
