The Saturday February 12, 2011 NRA Smallbore Rifle and Air Rifle Silhouette Match at Magnolia Rifle and Pistol Club in Jackson, MS. has been cancelled.

I noticed that the Match did not show up on the Magnolia Club events schedule. The Air Rifle Match was listed on the NRA website but the Smallbore Match was not. The NRA Match Certificate I was sent does list the Match. With this much confusion, demand for range time and lack of competitors interested in shooting the Match I have notified the NRA Silhouette department that the Match is cancelled.

There will be no more NRA Rifle Silhouette Matches at Magnolia Rifle & Pistol Club, Jackson, MS. in 2011. We will try to hold a Mississippi State or Regional NRA Rifle Silhouette Match in 2012 if the dates can be worked out.

The overall health of the NRA Rifle Silhouette program is great. The largest, most well-attended Rifle Silhouette Match in the World is held every June just 1 hour and 45 minutes to the East of Jackson, MS. at Winnsboro Gun Club. There is just no interest in the Central Mississippi area. There are plenty of ranges holding Smallbore and Air Rifle Silhouette matches within reasonable drives of Jackson, MS. every weekend. If you want to shoot NRA Rifle Silhouette just send me an e-mail and I will reply with information about other local matches.

That said. If 22RF F-class at Magnolia moves to the Center range I would like to set up a modified 5 shot Silhouette course on F-class days on the East 100 range that takes about 2 and 1/2 minutes to shoot in the standing position. This is something 22RF F-class competitors could walk over and do if they have any down time. It would also introduce people to 22RF Silhoutte.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks to the Board of Directors and those folks who helped us set up NRA Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Rifle program. It is sad that it did not catch on when it is so popular in other areas.

Proper standing position, elbow on hip or spare tire if the shooter has one, bone on bone, front hand close to trigger guard; Kimbers, most Anschutz except prone models, Suhl, and the like were built for all position shooting. The weight only steadys the shot. Not legal rifles per NRA silhouette rules but this will be for fun if a shooter has down time during 22RF F-class. (See the following paragraphs) I will have a good lightweight Silhouette Rifle to loan also. This is what I propose for this "side" Match:

I will have regular 1/5 scale pigs at the usual 60 meters. Pigs are the easiest SIlhouette target to hit. Just hold low so you do not have to change off of your 100 yard F-class settings or shoot any .22 rifle you happen to have with you that day. I will have a pig swinger out also. 2 and 1/2 minutes on the pig swinger to practice. 5 shots or less practice on the swinger in less than the 2 and 1/2 minutes. Rest for 30 seconds. Then 5 shots in 2 and 1/2 minutes to hit five pigs on the rail from left to right. If a person downs all five pigs, there will be a 30 second rest stand down and then the shooter will have 30 seconds and one shot to hit a 1/5 scale chicken on the 60 meter rail to break ties. One shooter on the line at a time.

I will stand with the shooter, keep time, scores and give the simple commands. I will also have a fine NRA rules legal CZ452 Silhouette rifle there zeroed with good ammo for those with a real heavy rifle impossible to hold in the standing position.

Shoot this course of fire as many times as you want during your down times but each time throw a dollar or five dollars to be determined in the pot. Half the pot goes to the winner and half goes to Blair E. Batson, F-class awards, Junior programs, or wherever the Magnolia Board of Directors says it should go. If approved by 22RF Match Director and Magnolia Match Board of Directors I will be at Magnolia for as many 22RF F-class matches as possible.

Thanks,

Shoe Shooter, Don't think negative. "a pig"? It's "pigs" plural. Hit all five in a row and then you get to hit the "chicken". I will do the work, keep up with the scores, set the silhouettes back up, etc. If approved by Magnolia you 22RF F-class guys just come over a few steps to the range next to the F-class range and have fun between your relays and scoring.

Must be going blind?

Subgunfan is correct. The February 12, 2011 NRA Smallbore Rifle Silhouette date IS on the Magnolia 2010 Match Schedule in BOLD black and yellow! I must be going blind. I had the schedule on my refrigerator and once I got it in good light I saw it. E-mail just went out to the Magnolia Smallbore Silhouette group.

The NRA Silhouette Department has got the Match listed in some places, not listed in other places it should be listed and this is very confusing.

As always if you want to shoot a rifle that does not fit any of the rules, do not worry about it. The score just cannot be recorded in a NRA scorebook. Just come shoot for fun. The Match is shot in the standing position only with only clothing appropriate for the weather condtions.

I have five brave souls e-mailing me they want to shoot it. Trying to see if I can get it back on? Anybody else want to shoot Rifle Silhouette on February 12, 2011 at Magnolia?

Shoot me an e-mail.
