ok since you can not hit your sprue plate with a normal hammer you need a wood handle or one of those polymer mallets i decided to try an make my own.. Got a eight inch 5/8is hex head bolt and a ten ounce bud light can. Cut a slight for the bolt and a small hole on top to pour the lead in. I used a ton of fiberglass tape to tape the slit shut so fingers crossed that the lead sets up befor burning through it... when it gets finished i will saw the ends off leaving flat surfaces and wrap the handle or dip it an presto! lead hammer! lol if my numbers are right its gonna be about 10lb hammer... should get that sprue plate open quick!

Not to shoot your idea down..... but I think with all that weight the threaded rod is going to eat your hand up.................

I use a large hard plastic hammer for gang sprue plates.

10lbs spruce hammer!! WOW!! You gonna get real tired of that quickly -- about 5 pours and you going to be looking for an old wooden broom stick!! :lol:

well her she is mmm rather heavy lol but the great thing about lead is a sawzall cuts its like a hot knife through butter, so gonna cut alot of this weight off and try and get it around 5 lbs +/-. All ready taken the threads into consideration i got some "plasti cote" you use it to dip your tool handles in to re-ruberize them. The parts that i cant dip i will wrap in alot of electric tape.

When Cap't, 'Neck and SGF were trying to beat some knowledge in me, a good piece of wood was good enough. The more I look at that, the more I thinks you spray painted that, the threads and all are silver. Pulling our leg? :scratch:

I use a 12" piece of 1 1/4" oak rod to hit my sprue plates with and it works fine.

"3-beer" reloads don't shoot so well...I'd imagine 3 beer cast bullets are in the same category.... :thinking:

608 115gr's... im gonna trim about a inch off on each side this evening and see how it feels... if it still sucks i can always melt it back down lol
