Hello all, I have a few light scratches on the slide of my Springfield 1911 near the slide release. Any comments on how to buff those scratches out? Appreciate any comments.....

Naw, they are light scratches, loaned it to my brother on a shoot and when he tried to pull the slide release out to clean the weapon he scratched it lightly.

try some flitz first.. if that dont work try some super fine steel wool. if that dont take it out go to wet dry sandpaper like 1200 grit

If it's a matte finish lightly rub it with a green scotchbrite pad. The key is to do it randomly.

No, I used the least aggresive pad. Mine is the brushed/matte stainless finish.

OK can I get those scotch brite pads from Wally word?

Yep. Should be able to get them at The Wall, Lowes, or Home Depot. Just be sure to get the fine (green) ones. Walmart probably has them near the painting stuff. Lowes or Home Depot has them near the sand paper.

If its a bad scratch, you might have to use the grey or maroon pad followed by the green.

I used a dremel with a felt pad and polishing compound. Quick, easy and no chance of adding scratches to it.

The Scotchbrite will reduce "shiney" places on a matte finish. If you hold the gun just right, and know where to look, you will still see something (tiny random scratches), but to the casual observer it looks nice. Again, the key is RANDOM, which is difficult as humans are creatures of habit and tend to do things in patterns.
