Re: Loading 308 subsonic

You need a chrono and a little time. I think most everyone uses trail boss. I would start at 8gr and move up. You want to be as close as you can to supersonic without crossing over. It is kind of trial and error

You need to start high and work down with a chronograph "say 11 grains " it willnot be too much pressure with trailboss. What twist barrel and what grain pills are you using?

always start high and use a chronograph so this doesnot happen "start high only when loading subsonic"

Re: Loading 308 subsonic

Never had a problem with any of the guns we have tested at 8gr. That is using twists from 1:12 (sub optimal) to 1:8 using 180 gr and up to 220. We have not stuck one yet.

You should always check your barrel, I understand that. The reason I say go up is to get it to a speed as close to supersonic as conditions will allow. As conditions change you will have to alter your load to stay keep as much speed as you can. 8gr has never left one in the barrel so from my experience that is very safe place to start. Do I have a problem starting at 11gr and working down? No.

I do want to temper what I said above. If this is your first time to try this do as TitleIIredneck says. Start hot and work down to subsonic. Check your barrel after every shot. I dont want you to stick one and have your gun blow up on you.
