To say that this deer season has been discouraging would be a major understatement as far as I'm concerned. I have put in some major hours and just can't seem to get on them. I was fortunate enough to kill a doe back in bow season. Nothing since. Several long, long hunts. Nothing. I couldn't go this morning after ringing in the new year helping my wife with our 3 year old son all night last night as he was suffering through the latest stomach virus to hit our household. He was feeling better so I slipped off this afternoon and went to a stand I helped my dad build last year. Got in the stand around 3 and didn't see anything til about 5. I caught a glimpse of something white slipping through some brush about 75 yards away. I threw up the binocs, saw he was "big enough", and put the crosshairs on his shoulder as he was moving at a fast walk. Finally got to shoot a deer with my new Savage '06. He is tall and tight. Not a monster, but a welcome sight to me with the season I've had so far.

Sounds like your having a season bout like mine. Today I thought I was pulling the trigger on a nice doe by herself and turns out the force of her slamming into the ground popped up 2 nubs on her head. ;-) well this is the first deer I have killed since I was 11 and I hunt every year but have always missed or let them walk cause I can't get a shot. I needed meat so a doe was a good choice for the first deer of the season. I thought. Turns out we will be eating some very tender meat soon. Now to go drop some more since I worked all the misses and stuff out of the gun.

Damn nice deer 3spop...

I waited about 10 years for mine... :lol3:

Its been a weird season..we've had a lot of bad weather and windy days during the season.

I just have to go when I can, I can never go when its perfect conditions...ie new Moon, 20 degrees blue sky day....when we get those I have to be at work...

I've banged 5 Nan's and 1 Buck this year so I'm resting easy

what he said...

just seein this, so congrats to you, altho a little late.

i have to just go when i can. but i do, as it sounds like you do to. one thing i have learned is that altho i can not always control when i can go, or what the conditions are, i HAVE to go and be IN THE WOODS when i can, or i am not gonna see anything... cant kill deer from your couch. well most people cant. :D
