I am loving this rifle. I picked up a CVA Scout in 35 Whelen a few weeks ago and it has been a pleasure to shoot. I have killed 2 deer with it so far and neither one took another step. The last one didn't even twitch. The recoil is no worse than my 7mag and I can't wait to take it out past 200yds (only found 1 box of 200gr ammo to sight in to 200yds and leave me a few rounds to hunt with). Got my dies for Christmas and I resized some brass last night. Hope to go to the range to find my load within the next couple of weeks. I plan on hunting with this rifle the rest of the year. I'm glad I didn't go with the 444 or 45-70.

I shot a deer with my partners .35 Whelen, facing me, yesterday at 210 yards that jogged off and seemed to say bye bye on the way out of the edge of the field. I couldn't believe I had missed as the crosshairs where high on the shoulder. Found her just inside the woodline, ran maybe 40-50 yards. Bullet hit point of aim and exited just under the spine on the opposite side. I am very surprised the deer didn't show anymore sign of being hit. It was surreal. Just goes to show, there is no standard reaction to a shot, even a .35 Whelen 200 grain Hornady with a maximum plus powder charge.

My buddy just bought a Whelen for his Thompson Center and to say it shoots good is an understatement. As soon as we got it on zero he shot a sub moa @ 100 with it with the 200gr factory loads. We hunted Monday and he shot a doe with it with a high shoulder shot and like said she DRT. Gotta have one for my Thompson Center now.

Got one of Van's 28" fluted with compensator barrels in 35 Whelen. I can't see why I want to put my 7mm/08 barrel back on. The 35 is dead on, not bad recoil with 200 or 225 loads, knocks whatever it hits SAD (Slap [email protected]@ Dead). Good to download for "managed recoil" shots and general target shooting.
