Bolt Actions are weapon of choice!
Sid, I thought you were going to e-mail me earlier in the week. I would put you on the e-mail group for the Feb12,2011 NRA Silhouette Match at Magnolia and you would have gotten the daily info e-mails that explained a lot of the current equipment. I did not see your post until today. Too many forums to keep up with for me.
Savage Bolt action with detachable magazine is perfect for 22 rimfire Silhouette. Even side matches will have 15 second ready period followed by 2 and 1/2 minutes to make five shots. The targets are small and the wind is blowing. It pays to use all of your 2 and 1/2 minutes for the five shots. Hurried shots result in misses. Slowing everything down results in hits. When the wind is gusting it takes time "to time" the lulls and try to shoot in the lulls. It is not a speed game, it is a wind calling, standing hold, timing the wobble game. The target does not wobble but all the shooters wobble. Some including me wobble more than others.
I am going to shoot this regularly scheduled NRA Match Silhouette Feb 12 since it may be the last one. So nobody think they are going to be embarrassed.
