I picked up a Marlin 1894 in 44 mag recently from 1Adam12. He had some nice parts on it but I wanted to go another route so I pulled those off to use on another gun. I also have an 1894 CST (357, 16.5” threaded barrel). Those come with XS sights from the factory. I added a Scout rail and a VX2 Leupold Scout scope to it and have used it that way for the last two deer seasons. Well, I have decoded I want one of those Tactical Timmy forends on my CST, and that Scout rail is not compatible. I am going to order an XS Leverrail for the CST, so I put the XS sights and Scout rail on the “new” 1894 44 mag. I need to file the front sight screws as they are too long but it’s a start. The 44 got the Leupold. The 357 will get a Weaver fixed 4x Scout scope, at least for the time being. It has a lot smaller FOV, so I may end up buying more Leupolds.
Next step is to shoot it to make sure I am happy with the gun’s accuracy. If I am, then I am going to have the barrel chopped to 16.5” and threaded, and have an action job done.

So I like the forward mounting of the scope better than traditional for sure. I ran a vortex venom on a 336 last year, I like it but I don’t care for raising my cheek up off the comb so much. I’ve been wondering about one of the rear sight (3/8”) weaver barrel mounts for the vortex to lower a bit, skinner makes one. Anyone with comments on that one
