gonna be my primary deer gun this year.

200 gr lever evo's out the muzzle at 2565 fps. dnz game reaper one pc mount with nikon prostaff 2-7x32 scope, cross bolt safety replaced with saddle ring, and enlarged lever loop by MULEMAN over on marlinowners.com.

next up is leather, then probably an old style stock and forend to get the checkering off, then a trigger job probably.

love it! a long range lever gun...

I have a 308 marlin exp. in the Stainless with the long barrel. A great looking ballistic chart. I have had it several years but haven't used it yet. The rifle is a beautiful gun and all. I bought it on a whim and like the idea. I have several boxes of ammo made for the gun by hornady and dies and all to reload for it. I'm a 308 win. shooter and really like the round. By the tables the marlin is almost a exact copy running neck in neck with the win. I may drag it out next year and give it a whirl. I like the leverguns made by marlin and have a bunch of them. I have only zeroed the scope on the 308 exp. Haven't played with it much at all. What I did notice is the reloading manuals don't list loadings comparable to hornady's published ballistics levels. Their loads are more inline with 30-30 levels. I have ammo from hornady and will probably pick up more to stay in the power range. And duplicate the 308 win. I think they use a powder blended for their velocity levels that wasn't available over the counter for reloaders when I bought the rifle. Maybe it will become available so I can load ammo to their spec's later.

338 chucking a 200 grain bullet would pack a whallup. What kind of ammo you gonna shoot to keep that much energy in the body and not go straight through?
Take a look at this regarding keeping energy in the body (thanks to GunnyGene for posting link to this site in the General Firearms forum) http://www.rathcoombe.net/sci-tech/ballistics/myths.html#energy (not trying to hijack, discussion on this should go in that forum topic...just providing info FWIW)
