"Miss Kimber" arrived today!

CMP was good to me again. For those of you considering one of these...just DO IT. Best $1500 rifle you'll ever buy for $400. So...right out of the box:

Pretty clean, none of that "yellow stuff" I've heard about. It did have the obligitory razor knife cut on the left, about 10" long, very faint. Rubbed a little dark stain in it & you really have to look for it now:

Reports say most of the "rust" is on and in the bolt. Doesn't look too bad. Took the bolt apart and found the spring was pretty rusty. Gave it quick shot of Breakfree and a few swipes with a brass brush. Later on it could use a good soaking in some penetrating oil, but should be fine for now. Rust was confined to the spring and a few light flecks in the chamber area. Wiped off easily.

Managed to get it all back together (I think), and mounted the 8-32 BSA on it. I like!! Hope the rain holds off Saturday so I can get it sighted-in. I think it's kinda lonely though...it might like a companion...Hmmm.

I have heard and read on here so many good things about those Kimbers that now I want one. I am looking at February (Birthday) if there are any left. Did these guns actually cost $1500 originally?

Only the Army knows for sure...you were in long while...what do you think? Comparing it to low-end Anchutz, I bet $1500 is petty close to the VALUE.

I really dont know what to think, I was in the Army for some time but never heard of these rifles until I became a member of this forum. If you think $1500 is the value or close to it, Ill take your word for it.

Here's an article from Rifle Magazine in 1990 talking about the Kimbers and the gov't requirements for the original contract. No price is mentioned.

What time are you thinking about going. If mine comes in I'll come out to shoot to zero my scope and get some trigger time. Think I should have bought a higher scope than 20x after seeing some of ya'lls. I have some ammo your are welcome to test to see if it groups better (I assume you got the wolf). Let me know Steve.
Also got my mare's leg you can shoot if interested. Just got it today and ready to do some shootin'.

Its a classic case of a gubermint pork barrel project gone bad...Gubermint ordered em...then didn't want em...Kimber called their bluff and said u ordered em we made em...u pay...

you know...kinda like NASA's $5000 toliet seats...whatever

You can be pretty confident that ole Captain-03 and 'Neck aint been BS'ing ya'll on these.

Don't matter what its "worth"...cause mine aint going anywhere.

Some say the front and rear sights are probably worth $150 by themselves...rest assured...its worth $429 to your door

Nice score there shoe....

U got the same scope as mine...

Everyone needs one of these...you really do...I may need to get another myself

Great article bubbat...I'd lov to see the test group results Kimber got out of my rifle...that would be an interesting part of history

I oughta get a commission from the CMP!

Going to the Gunshow Sat. am, probably be at Magnolia about 1:00, weather permitting. I've got next Tues. & Wed. off, so there's the back-up plan.

Posted the link for the scope mount earlier, but here it is again. Don't know yet how it works, but seams solid, and plenty of clearance.

Not cheap, but hopefully idiot-proof (shoeshooter-proof???)

Re: "Miss Kimber" arrived today!

I ordered the BLK261 and put it on my Kimber. When I tried to zero at 50 yards, I found that there was not enough elevation in the scope for a proper zero. I am using the Tasco 10-40 x 50 scope. I did some small shimming to the rear ring to give me more elevation and will shoot tomorrow to make sure I have enough elevation to get out to 100 yards. Just in case I don't have enough elevation, I ordered the BKL254D7 drop compensated mount. The BKL mounts seem to be very well made. The only thing I've noticed about the one I already have is that it has a lot of excessive room when you place the scope into the rings, almost as if the rings were made for a 30mm scope. However the rings tighten down and hold the scope very good.

Not encouraging. Let me know how it works, I can't try mine until Sat. May pick up some rings before I head to the range just in case.

Nice stick there Shoe. Mine is definatelly a keeper I will never part with it, especially since all the good folks that shoot F-Class gave it to me as a token of apreciation for running the matches the last 3 years, has a lot of sentimental value now.

I KNOW that's not an American flag there Shoe, must have been a reflection or a bad angle from the sun. Or maybe a Ohio flag.
What's the price to walk in the door at the gun show. Is it gonna be a big one or one of those little ones with half the tables with flea market BS.
What's that rail for? I would think a bipod but it's got a sling ring on it but none for the back. What gives? Hoping to get one tomorrow, if it in near that good a shape, I'll be pleased. Hope we can get up Saturday afternoon at Magnolia.
