missed one :(

Sittin in my new spot this mornin. About 8am I look up and have 4 does ON TOP of me. Went to slowly raise my rifle and big'un looked up right at me. She didn't know what it was but knew it wasn't righ. She was at about 10 yards at this point. She turned and started trotting away. I found her in my scope and followed her. She slowed to a walk and I shot. Guess I jerked or something cause I smooth missed her. Got down to be sure. No hair, no blood. 35 yard shot. Lol. Dang

Well at least I aint trackin a wounded deer. That's a positive I reckon.

So how yall doin?

At least you're seeing them. Counting bowseason, I've been in a stand close to 25 times and have seen deer only 6 of those times. Frustrated doesn't begin to describe it. I have a bad run of luck going, but I ain't giving up. Yet.

Re: missed one :(

I've been hunting probably eight or ten times this week, and I've seen one deer as she was trotting away. I was hooking up the stand to the tree and looked down in the bottom and there she was. No time to get a shot off. other than that, nothing. My plot was totally dead for a while. Tonight after hunting in the forest I went and spotlighted across my plot, and what you know, i saw eyes. Thinking it was coyotes, I went and got my .22wmr (I know I know I know you don't gotta remind me that you can't shoot them after dark) and walked back to the gate. Before going in I hit the light again, and there were two sets of eyes. It was two deer eating along the woodline. So, they oughta find the food I put out and maybe I'll get one before I head back to work Tuesday. I was thinking maybe the deer had just packed up and left the area.

Is it always this slow on opening week??

Re: missed one :(

Jr. and I seen 3 thanksgiving morning he missed and didn't see another one after that. He didn't hunt with me this morning so I dropped the hammer on a big-o-doe when she stepped out at 7:50 this am. Felt good to draw blood for the first time in like 10 years. My old rifle must have had a lot of misses in it I could tear paper up allday but couldn't hit deer for nothing. Started hunting with another rifle this year and I'm 1 for 1 so far.

Yes Sir! That is a beaut. The rifle I'm using is a Remington 760 pump in 270 cal. I have no idea the round count, got it off my b-inlaw for 200 bucks 2 years ago and havent hunted with it till this season. Wish I would have started using it sooner cause it a real sweet shooter.
