Interested in knowing who all out there cast their own "boollits". If so, what calibers do you cast for? Maybe we can do share info and techniques amongst ourselves ...

I have casted for pistols (38/357, 9mm, and 45acp) off and on for about 28 years ... just got into rifle boolits and 500S&W and 40S&W about 6 months ago ... I have recently purchased some 30cal moulds for the M1 Carbine, .308/30.06, 7.62x39, and .223.

Look forward to hearing from the "Mississippi Casters!!"

Been casting for 25 years using ww.
I cast for 45 ACP for a 1911, 7mm for a 7x57 and 308.
If I ever get around to putting a Wolf barrel in my Glock I will do 9mm.
Great to have ya here!! Go ahead and get that Lone Wolf barrel for the Glock!! They work great!!

What moulds do you have for the 45acp and 308 (always looking for different 30cal!!)?

I've been casting for a 30+ years. I cast for 38/357, 9mm, 380, 9x18, 45 colt, 45 acp, 0 buck, 000 buck and various other blackpowder bullets. I just started casting for rifles; 223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 30-06, 308 about 6 months ago. I've always enjoyed casting but I do most of it in cooler weather so I can get good ventilation without sweltering in the heat.

Edit: I forget to add 45/70 to the list

Capt., the 45 is a Lee mold 230gr swc, .452 diameter.
The 308 is also a Lee mold 160gr RN, .309 gas check.
I also borrow a friend's mold, don't know the maker, but it is 180gr RN, .309 gas check. All are lubed with Alox

I, too, have just started casting for my rifles. Have been fairly successful with the M1 Carbine and 7.62x39 AKs. I have casted up some .223 but have yet to work-up any loads. Been trying for several months to get my M1A1 Scout to function with any of the 30cal moulds I have!! What have you tried in the 308? Loading for a semi or bolt gun?

My idea was to have to stuff to build my own if and when "store bought" bullets disappear. I haven't worked up any loads yet other than a few 7.62x39 for my AKs. I want to work up cast loads for 30-06 for my bolt guns and my garand. I eventually want to build some 308 cast loads for my FAL and 223 for my ARs and AK. Keep us posted on how the 308 loads go.

captain-03. I'll check my .30 cal stuff tomorrow. I think I have some Lee C309-200R unsized and unlubed cast from WW with 2% tin I can send you to try. Then you can size and lube to your specs. I'll let you know.
man - that would be great!!

2% tin -- do you have a good source for tin?

-- or the price goes up so much it is cost prohibitive!! That was exactly why I decided to try casting for my rifles ... starting buying moulds, etc, about 6 month ago. While I do have several old bolt guns in 30.06 (M1903A3 - M1917s), my main interest is loading for the semi's. AKs, SKSs, ARs, M1A, M1 Carbines, Garands ..... the ability to function the action is my frustration right now in the M1A.

Raided the local radiator shop and got all the solder droppings from his tank. It's pretty nasty stuff but comes out at about 60% lead and 40% tin (based on specific gravity calculation found on castboolits.com). I'm cheap, what can I say....

I found a some C309-200 unsized/unlubed and some pan lubed, unsized, gas checked (with home made alum. gc). I'll try to get them in the mail tomorrow if I get to town. PM me with you mailing address.

NOTE: These bullets have not been weighed or sorted so some may need to recycled. Also, the lubed bullets are pan lubed with Jake's Scarlet Ceresin Cast Bullet Lube.

I found 15 gr. of 2400 will cycle my AKs just fine whereas 14.5 is inconsistent. I want to do more research before I try running any CBs through my Garand or FAL. Maybe when it cools off a little I can start the work-up process.

I'm doing good to cast what I need for myself. Most of my molds are 1 or 2 cavity. If I had some 6 cavity molds, I wouldn't mind passing on some of my "excess bullets" for a little cash.

I only cast when the weather is cool so unless I run short, I'm done until next fall. It's just too hot in the summer to stand over a 600+ degree lead pot for several hours.

Maybe someone else on the board has more casting capacity than me.

I moved from MS 6 plus years ago and love to cast but don't get to very often. Use a Magma 40 lb'er. and have a bunch of molds. Have been on the cast bullets site for years although drifted away some over the past 2 years since I find myself doing a lot of fishing thanks to a new Ranger. Trying to get back into it more as it is really enjoyable. Spent saturday melting 1K plus lbs. of cable sheathing roof flashing into ingots. Hot work. The weather up here is a little more agreeable to casting which I primarily do right after the first of the year. I used to shoot a lot of bullseye until Nat. Guard started interfering with that. It really made a lot of "High and Mighty" shooters mad when I outshot them with my "homemade bullets". I loved it!!!

Casting Ability

I'm currently casting for 30 cal(309-180),AK's/SKS (312-160-2R Lee) and New Custom Lee 6 cav which is dropping them at approx .314.

Also have Custom Lee 6 cav which drops them at .316(185 gr) I think.which is really nice for Mosins,Enfields,Japs, etc with worn bores

Haven't cast any pistol since I'm still sittin on more than I can shoot, but plan to buy a 6 cav Lee in 38 spec and 9mm sometime this year

I'm open to swapping molds...I think I'm too lazy to cast boolits for sale :p
