I just finished giving anohter 870 a facelift and thought I would post pics for your viewing pleasure. Decided to keep it simple, light weight, easy to point and classic.
I started with an 870 Wingmaster and swapped the barrel out with an 18.5 threaded Remington barrel from Midway. Its stuffed with a RemMod choke. I added a Meprolight tritium front sight because I simply thing they rock in low light conditions, allthough I prefer a bead for daylight conditions I wanted to keep in standing with my "bump in the night" gun.
I took the "flex-tab" system off of another old 870 I had and installed it on this gun to hopefully elimate any feeding issues I may ever encounter. I've never had a problem with an 870, but apparentley the "flex-tab" is more reliable.
I also added a two shot extension for versatility and a side sling plate just because I needed to add 10 more dollars to my Midway order to get free shipping. I also added a Wilson follower for no reason I can think of.
I rounded all the sharp edges on the reciever with a file, around the trigger guard and magazine well just so I dont wear the skin off of my fingers after extended shooting sessions. Then the parts went into the sandblaster and after that they got coated inside and out with KG GunKote in Moly Mil-Spec O.D. Grey-Green. Its a bit more green than I hoped. I wanted more of a gray finish, but it still looks sweet and should never rust. I also "tuned" the extractor by reshaping the claw for a more aggressive bite on the shell and case hardened it.
One consideration for a HD shotgun is how it will be presented as evidence to the jury. This shotgun looks like a tool that a prudent person would have in his home.
It is in sharp contrast to some shotguns that appear much more aggressive in modifications.
