I started make the title "My first wheel weight meltdown", but knowing this bunch, that seemed like a bad idea.
I had this box of wheel weights taking up space in my shed, so I decided to take advantage of the cool weather and give it a try. I used a Lee ingot mold that I picked up for $5 but I'm definitely going to get muffin pans next time because I kept having to wait for the mold to cool.
Yes, that pan is pink. I used it to powder-coat a pink cowbell for my sister.

if im doing some serious melting i get a big cookie sheet and a old towel.. soak the crap out of the towel and lay it in the cookie pan and add more water to it to make it seriously wet.. set the molds on it and it cools way faster that way.

Be VERY careful doing this .. be VERY careful when you place the HOT mold into the water or on a wet surface -- INSTANT STEAM AND IT WILL BE HOT!! Wear GOOD gloves if you elect to go this route.

That looks very familiar. When I load up my dutch oven I put the top on it and check back about 15 minutes later. It really keeps the smoke down that way. It will also keep unexpected surprises inside of the pot.
Yeah, I kept the lid on it to keep the heat in. Plus, I stayed back in case something popped or crackled and sent molten lava into the air. Good thing I sell safety supplies. Those "samples" came in handy.
