Sometime back I was looking over the extra parts I had on hand for the garand. Seemed that I had enough to build another rifle with the exception of a barrel and receiver. Decided I would order one of the $100 barrelled receivers from CMP .. Some details:
-- Receiver has a 6-digit serial number and was produced by Springfield in March 1942;
-- it was rebarrelled in or around 1949 with another Springfield barrel;
The only serviceable bolt I had sitting around was an H&R from a Winchester Garand that I had replaced with the correct Winchester bolt. I was a little concerned that the bolt might not headspace with a barrel that old. Installed the bolt, checked it with my headspace gages - GOOD TO GO!!
I first mounted it into an old stock set I had sitting around (barnwood)! I decided to do something that many will say is a sin -- mount it in plastic ... here is the finished product. I have run a clip through it just to test function .. everything works great ... need to get to the range and see how she will actually shoot!!
It is now one of those Black Guns!!
