This happened friday night but Ive been busy so I didnt post it till now.

It was our second night in the apartment and our nine year old had spent the first night with a friend of the family because most of her stuff was still packed up and she didnt want to sleep amid a bunch of boxes. She got home sometime in the late afternoon and we all then went to get groceries and run a few errands which put us back home around 9 pm. We had unloaded the 2 little ones and come inside so I was headed back outside to get the groceries when I heard my wife exclaim"Ian!" (thats me) "Ian come here, hurry!" I turned the corner into the living room to see my wife escorting the children to another room and then I noticed that the back door to our patio was wide open. I took a head count and drew my 1911 then directed everyone to the entryway (the only place I knew that was clear ) and proceeded to clear the apartment with my weapon drawn. After I was sure everything was safe I went back to my family and the first thing I noticed was the look of awe intermingled with shock on my oldest daughters face (apparently caused by her dad going around the apt. with his gun drawn) I told her it was okay and there was nothing to worry about then she looked at me and then my gun and said "I know" and bounced off to her room, I could only smile. Turns out that I went outside to smoke before we left and didnt close the door all the way and the wind blew it open...oops

I thought that was a helluva way for her to start her first night here.

I hope she slept well knowing her daddy was ready and able to protect them all!!

I remember several years ago, the wife and I took a mid-week trip over to Charleston, SC for a few days R&R. On the way back we decided to just drive straight through back to Jackson. I guess it was about midnight and we were still on the road and got a call from my youngest son. (He may be the youngest but he was 23 at the time just back from Afghanistan) He said that the security alarm had gone off - his room is upstairs - grabbed a pistol and flashlight (keep one both up and downstairs) and proceeded down the stairs .. went through the kitchen and saw the back door to the patio/deck wide open. He checked the rest of the house - found nothing and no one inside (thank God!!). Told him to go ahead and call the Sheriff and report it - just in case we found something missing later ... When we finally made it to the house, I did another walk though before letting the wife inside. Talked with him about his activities that night. Learned he had decided to cook on the grill located on the deck. I will bet my last dollar that he did not fully shut and lock the door to the deck before going to bed and the wind just blew it open.

It was a scary experience driving back thinking "what could have happened -and- is everything OK now .."

Your memory may not be the best,

But your instincts and reaction was spot on.

When we still lived in the Delta, my neighbor across the street called and said there was guy was peeping in the bathroom window at the wife of their next door neighbor and they had chased him off, he ran toward my house and they lost him, but he was still in the neighborhood and the police were searching for him and wanted our help.

I got my 1911 told my wife what was going on and told her to lock the doors behind me. I went out in the front yard where about 10 policemen and 10 neighbors had garthered. The civilians were better armed than cops. :lol4: We divided up and started searching. We searched for about an hour and came up empty. Everybody gathered back up at the end of my driveway and was just BSing. I walked up to the house and got my cigs out of my truck, lit one and was walking back to the end of the drive when I just glanced over in the bed of my truck and there he was, we saw each other at the same time. Surprised the crap out of me, He stood up in the bed of the truck and had a knife, I stepped back about 15-20 feet and drew down on him and yelled for the cops.

So here we were, guy with a knife standing in the back of my 1 day old new F150 swinging it at 10 cops and 10 civilians all with guns drawn on him. I was going guys "don't shoot him in my truck it's new".. :lol4: This stand off lasted about 10 minutes till he swung the knife at one cop and lost his balance and fell out of the truck and the cops pounced on him. They got him cuffed and hauled him off without anyone getting hurt.

For a couple of months after that, anytime a cop in town saw me, he would say "Don't shoot him in my truck, it's new." and fall out laughing.

The main reason I didn't want them to shoot him in the back of my truck was I had help the training officer a couple of times when he held their yearly qualifying and knew 9 out of 10 would have missed him and hit my truck.

Back home i moved out of the folks house into this nice apartment, bought a BIG screen tv and massive sectional so im sitting there chilling out one night and there is knock on the door. I look through the sight glass and there is a woman there with her back to the door. Well i thought it was a friend of mine from high school so i open the door and its this 40 year old crack ho! She walks in puts her purse on the kitchen table and heads off to the bathroom. All while im standing there in my robe in shock lol. After 10 min in the bathroom she comes out. By this time i had my H&K in a shoulder rig under my robe, she sits on the couch and starts screaming were in the heck so and so is and do i know this person and that person and starts chanting and crap. Well after half an hour i talk her into loading up and getting more crack rocks so as we walk out the door i said o no i forgot my wallet and ran back inside and dead bolted the door! This crazy fool starts trying to kick the door down and she started body ramming it. She was screaming an said she was going to shoot the door lock of and whoop my tail so i dropped to one knee loaded the pistol and took aim at the center of the door waiting for her to take her shots and come in. The whole time i was sitting there I was thinking omg if i get blood on this carpet im not getting my deposit back and if it gets on my sectional its gonna be freaking ruined. Luckly she didnt shoot the door and kick it in because i was seriously torn between popping her or not getting my deposit back  after she left i went to the bath room were i found a small shrink wrap packet with 4 crack rocks in it......

Oh man I know how that goes, when I lived on the coast I lived in some pretty crappy apartments and one day around noon a crackhead came wandering in my front door and sat down on the couch and produced one of those glass tube things ( a crack pipe?) and tried to light up then dropped it into my couch and flipped the freak out and started tearing my couch apart as this was happening one of my room mates (a rather large fellow was trying to pick the guy up and physically remove him, my other room mate was laughing hysterically and I was spewing forth a stream of obscenities that would make a sailor blush anyway my roommate managed to remove the guy and we closed and locked the door ( and kept it that way untill we moved out) a few weeks later while scraping change for beer out of the couches we came across a burnt glass tube with some kind of cotton or something in it...we threw it away

About ten years ago my son was a freshman engineering student at MSU. I stayed in the dorm when I was there and I figured he could, too.

Well, it ain't the same.

He was in a very small minority---most of the white kids were in apartments, trailers, or fraternity houses. Or, maybe just in a different dorm.

There was beer drinking and girlfriends and rap music at 150 db every night. On weekends it was worse. The floor RA who was supposed to keep control was never there. Nor was the dorm daddy who was supposed to manage the RAs.

It was a zoo.

He spent several nights in his truck in the parking lot just to get some sleep.

I told him to just hang in there and they would all be gone after the first semester, but they weren't. In fact it got worse because most of the other few white students moved out.

It got really bad. One particular big guy had it in for my son and set out to run him out of the dorm.

One night around 1:30 a.m. I get a phone call from my son telling me that the big guy was yelling threats and trying to break the dorm door down.

The guy had stolen my son's laptop computer and my son accused him. It contained lab reports and such that were due the next day.

I could hear the banging on the door.

My son had a loaded Glock pointed at the door and had no intention of being hurt by the goon. (My son is good with guns and knows his way around with them.)

He had already called the useless campus cops. I told him to call 911 (Starkville PD).

I told him to put the gun away before he opened the door for the security---which he did.

Eventually security showed up, but nobody up and down the hall had heard anything.

I got a cousin who lives nearby to drive over to the dorm and escort my son out (which he did immediately in the middle of the night, armed, himself.)

We eventually met with the MSU Housing Manager but he could not have cared less.

Recently my son said that the big guy who caused so much trouble was killed in a robbery attempt or something. It was inevitable.
