I am a new member and have a new build-up AR 1-7 T w/20", 1" dia SS barrel that I plan to use the CFE-223 powder, if I can get a good starting load. Does anyone have any suggestions ??? Sierra doesn't have any up to date data for the AR and directed me to Hodgeon Powder Co. I will call them ASAP, but have been unable to retrieve anything off there load data site.

As you know, there is a difference in lengths of the Military 5.56 and Commercial 223 case necks, the latter being the shorter. Loadings used between the two can translate to large pressure differences and can be unsafe (explode) in some rifle chambers, as has occurred in FL. This, possibly could be from internal chamber heat, barrel heat, or direct sun on ammo/ rifle, but there is no doubt regards case and chamber lengths. So be very careful.

I stand corrected Mr BasMstr...just tired and dumb and got the info.
Oh yea, I used to bass fish and have an 18-3' boat w/Merc 150 fuel inject and 74# thrust troll motor, but can't do so any more due to age and health. it's for sale if you know of anyone interested.

Not much data for the 52s but here is Hodgdon data for the 55.
The biggest difference between the 5.56 and 223 commercial brass is the wall thickness which equals lower case capacity.

CFE223 sometimes does weird stuff. It can show pressure signs when it gets cold.

Spent part of this past winter trying CFE223 with a 52 SMK. Wouldn't work for me. Went to Varget with great results. 24.0 grains in a 20" 7.7 Kreiger gave me my first clean target at my last highpower match. 20 rounds at 200 yards.

CMP Highpower Match this Saturday (3/10/18) sign up thread.
