Just FYI I was at a deer management seminar Saturday in Hattiesburg, and the MDWFP folks gave out some info on what's happening with deer seasons this fall/winter. I don't have complete season info, but I do know what's happening with the bowhunting and the proposed early primitive season...
Statewide bowhunting begins October 1st for legal bucks (depends on your zone) and does. Statewide first primitive season begins Nov 8th and final day is Nov 19th, does only, no bucks. Regular rifle season starts Nov 20th. I think that’s with dogs, but I’m not sure. Bowhunting will be legal from October 1st up through the end of the final gun season, whenever that is for your zone.
The “Outdoor Digest” that you usually get at Walmart in August will be delayed until sometime in September, so you’ll probably want to use the MDWFP web site to double check these dates.
http://home.mdwfp.com (They are delaying the booklet this time so they can include waterfowl dates, which are not finalized until late August.)
Also be aware there is a tiny chance the first primitive season will not be approved. They said that it’s just a formality, but then again it is government, so there’s always a chance it will get screwed up. They said they will post the seasons on their web site as soon as everything is finalized in the next week or so.
