I finally made a little time to work on the 10/22 today. Dropped in a new hammer (thanks to Hrdnox!) and did the bolt release mod with my Dremel (best 1 minute mod ever) and swapped on a factory synthetic stock without the barrel band.

Then I loaded up the wife and went to some property that we own to try it out along with her new Stainless barrel 22/45 Hunter that we hadn't shot yet. (Note: This in a 1983 built 10/22 with less than 50 rounds through it and I haven't shot it (or any gun) in many, many years.) We took Remington 550 bulk pack and a box of CCI Mini-Mags just in case. They both ate the bulk with no problem except for one weak one that didn't extract from the rifle.
I was shooting with the open sights at 30 large steps with my left arm laying over a tree limb. I only took two targets and we tore those up with the first 30-40 rounds. I wanted to see what I could do now that I had a little practice so I marked a piece of cardboard with a center dot about the size of a dime and set it up. I only shot 9 rounds because I miscounted when I loaded the mag. You can see from the photo below that I need to adjust the sights to the left. I'll be ordering a scope this week anyway.
Not great shooting but we had a lot of fun and I have the wife excited to go again.

I've always heard firewood warms you twice, first when you cut it and again when you burn it. Project guns give pleasure three times. While you are building it, when you are firing it and then when you tell someone, "Oh, I built it myself."

What kind of hammer? Anyother firing control mods?

No other internal mods. The hammer is a stock one that I played with but I didn't do enough to make any difference. I'll do a little more to it but I'll probably be buying an aftermarket one. And, I'm sure some other goodies as I decide what I want.

Oh yeah, lot's of fun to tinker with and shoot. Since I don't have the room (yet) for a hot rod my "boom sticks" and motorcycles get all my tinkering attention.
I'm going to order a few items this week to make some more changes.
