I am having a NOS '52 GI barrel installed on one of my M 1 Garand that is completely shot out. Is it really necessary to break in a new barrel? If so, how many rounds need to be fired and how often should the barrel be cleaned? I have read several individuals' ideas on the break in process. Some says to fire so many rounds, let the barrel cool down and then swab the barrel. Repeat the fire and swab process several times.
Does anyone have any comments regarding break in procedure for a new barrel?
