let her try everything she can get her hands on and then suggest that she go with the largest caliber she can handle and still enjoys shooting.
designating calibers as "not for women" seems kind of silly to me since I have heard of alot (and seen one) of women shoot .357s and .45s with no problem...once you remove the stigma you can really get down to brass tacks and see what works for her
