Been wanting one of these for load development for a long time. Hope to build hammers ranging from mild to wild with it.

You're gonna love it. I've had my H&R .45-70 since the first year they were legal during Primitive Weapon. Back then Hornady's LeveRevolution was pretty easy to find on sale for $14.99 a box. I used to go through two boxes at each range trip. I wish I had started saving the brass from the beginning. Became my favorite deer rifle almost immediately, and still is. It was the only rifle I carried during deer season until about three years ago. Every deer I've shot with it has dropped on the spot. As far as meat damage or loss, the 325 grain FTX is awesome. Way less damage than soft points I've used in other calibers. We had one spot we used to hunt where we'd shoot them at 40-60 yards. Shooting them broadside through the lungs, that round would go right through with no damage at all. But the deer still hit the ground where they stood, lol. Maybe one of these days I'll get some cast to load for it. Mine has worn a $70 Centerpoint scope the entire time and never lost zero, and I've shot mild to wild factory ammo in it. I settled on 46.7 grains of H4198 under the 325 grain FTX for my hunting load. I put a Limbsaver recoil pad on mine to get a little extra LOP, but having shot it without the Limbsaver, I didn't notice much difference in felt recoil.

@Ellis93 how are you set for brass? The majority of what I have is LeveRevolution brass, so its a bit shorter. But I'm pretty sure I have some "normal" size, too.

I have always loved the Handi Rifles. I sold them when H&R disbanded tho for fear of parts availability and support but they were all great guns. We still have my daughter’s 30-30 and my 20 ga. I always wanted a 45/70 or 444 with a threaded barrel.
