ok who here has ever been to a match or just out shooting an had that odd moment were the other dude/girl is getting the 5 finger discount on your spent brass?????

Well my solution(yes i get bored alot).

In this pic you will see a standard 2x12 with a series of holes drilled into it. the main group holds 180 and leaves about a 1/8 of a inch of the cartridge base sticking up(mine is set for 38 spl depth) the next set back is set to color the base + half the the case. the next set back coats half a rifle case.
ok this is not krylon or some other paint. this is a laquer based metal die aka layout fluid.
the brand is called Dykem. you can buy it at most specialty metal shops or amazon, ebay, etc.

the two main colors are red and blue. at one time they had every color of the rainbow but i cant seem to find that many any more. o well. I set the depth on mine to just do the base of my round because im using a revo and thats really the only part you can see. For you auto users if you set your depth to do the base plus 1/4 the case you could slightly pull the slide back to see your color.
Why do you want to color your brass? Well first is for sorting purpose after you get done shooting. Second, if you have ammo that you need to make a certian power factor you can color code them red for "max". If you have subsonics you can color them blue. Or if you are doing load dev you can have normal(no color) hotter (blue) and hottest(red)

Hammer has a different way of doing this using different materials to..
questions? comments?

That crazy Bel cut his finger again............... When will he learn....?

I still think coating the whole case (assuming no build-up in the chamber) would be COOL. No doubt about it...... "Yes, all those RED cases are mine". "But you are welcome to pick them up for me....".

Not innovative. I have been doing it for 36 years. The only difference is I use a blue and a red magic marker and draw a criss-cross pattern on the brass. Not as much ink used. My solution to the problem is not to tumble my brass. It looks old and forlorned and nobody wants it.

jbpmidas and I don't have that problem on the Starkville pistol range because the two pistol ranges are one/two shooter at a time ranges. The rifle range is different in that up to 15 to twenty shooters can shoot at a time. When i was shooting in matches across the country many years ago, if you wanted your brass then you marked it with a magic marker and you would still lose some to your neighbors. But, then again, if you were on the ball, your neighbors would lose a lot to you.
