This is the program for this class in McComb. There is no training requirement for the issuance of a MS State Concealed Carry Permit but people need to seek out training if possible.

2010 NRA BASIC PERSONAL PROTECTION IN THE HOME, COURSE:
The class will be held on Friday October 29th, 2010 at 6:00-9:30 PM and Saturday 30th, at 9:00AM until 4:00PM. You must attend both days to be rated in this class. The class will qualify the students completing the course for pistol permit training requirements in States such as Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and Texas. We have instructors that are registered with the Louisiana State Police to conduct this course and qualify them for the training requirements for the Louisiana Concealed Carry Permit.
The Friday Night classroom will be held at the Southwest Gun Club indoor range. No student will be allowed to bring any firearms on the night of the class. The Saturday range training and live fire will be conducted at the Southwest Gun Club’s McComb Range Facility. Unloaded firearms may be brought to the McComb Range, on Saturday, for familiarization and training.
Directions to the range: Southwest Gun Club’s McComb Range facility. It is 6 miles East of McComb, MS on US Highway 98. When driving from McComb, drive East on US98 until you see the Homestead turnoff sign. Drive 2 miles further and the entrance to the range is on the North side of the road. If driving from Tylertown, MS, drive past the Bogue Chitto River Park and look for a roadside market on the right. The range road is 2.2 miles past the store. The name of the range road is Edna Drive.
The club will furnish .22 RF and .38 Special handguns and ammunition for the firing phase of the course. The following subjects will be covered by this course:

3. Safe Firearm Storage
4. Defensive shooting concepts
5. Basic defensive shooting skills
6. Shooting positions
7. Aiming and firing techniques
8. Utilizing cover and concealment

10. Opportunities for firearm skill enhancement
11. Making you and your home safer
12. Responding to a possible break-in
13. Confronting an intruder or attacker
14. If you must shoot, and what are the legal criteria
15. The aftermath of a defensive shooting
16. Firearms, self defense and the Law
17. The legal aftermath of a defensive shooting
18. Selecting a firearm for personal protection
19. Selecting ammunition for personal protection
20. Selecting firearm accessories
21. Firearm maintenance
22. Information and training resources
23. Facts about the NRA
The cost of the Course is $50.00. Students will receive a bound book with Chapters dealing with each lesson in the course. For further information, call Doug Bowser at 601-341-8797. Participants will have to be pre-registered before October 26, 2010 to take this course. Shooters may cancel their registration but should do so before October 25, 2010. Those canceling after that date will forfeit the course fee. At the Saturday session we highly recommend everyone in attendance to use eye and hearing protection. You should also bring a bag lunch and any type drinks you may want. We will supply ice water.
