Friend of mine's dad was a retired Col. Served from an enlisted man under Patton and servered through the Viet Nam "conflict". Never bragged or told "war stories" unless they were something funny that had happened. Told him one day that we were safe in JXN, he quickly told me that in a nuclear war, every State Capital was targeted, they wanted to take out every center of Government.
I live close too close to JXN for a nuclear war, would be taken out I think.
Good question, I'll watch for responses

you know, if i was a terrorist i would pick new york for nuke fallowed by DC. for people that think MS is safe needs to think again. we have one of the largest military bases here called camp shelby just a fyi. we also have a nuclear power plant that if attacked we would be pretty nasty. i think russia and china would have to team up to make this happen then our bombs would drop on them and their allies.... after that the sun aint going to be the only thing glowing around here

Don't forget Ingall's, Keesler, Gulfport/Biloxi docks, Mobile, AL Port and the shipbuilding companies there. I think all of them are targets!

Pine Bluff Arsenal where chemical weapons are stored.

Northwest of Pine Bluff, Arkansas it's the only place that arms white phosphorus munitions in the Northern Hemisphere too. Blow it up and you got a serious fire with some very toxic smoke to drift across the South.

I believe the Lord wants us to survive. Ever see Dr. Strangelove? I know where that bunker is where they have 100 young ladies for every man to repopulate the country. Dark humor, especially when the Cuban missile crisis was around the time it came out.

I will take this opportunity to point out what I said after 9/11: if they really want to "terrorize" the population - ie make us permanently change our way of life - which was explicitly stated to be one of Osama bin Laden's goals in attacking the USA: then hit some relatively small town / city like Jackson, Hot Springs AR, etc. Show the 'target' that no one in the USA is safe. Boy if they did that, it would be like Orwell's 1984: then the American people would turn into sheeple and willingly submit to taking off our shoes, belts, and submitting to "enhanced body pat-downs", limit ourselves to only certain liquids carried on board planes and trains, no beverages we bought ourselves in our carry-on luggage, etc. Oh Wait A Minute - we submit to that already. So who really won the war on terror ?

Hi,
I know I'm a little late on this topic; but I would only worry if you were either very close too those areas or the prevailing winds were pushing the fallout in your area. Keep in mind that not all nuclear detonations are created equal. "Dirty" or "salted" thermonuclear detonations produce much more fallout just because of their design parameters. A 20kt Salted bomb can produce more fallout than a 2MT clean hydrogen bomb. Ground Bursts also produce more fallout due to the large amount of vaporised and irradiated earth thrown up into the atmosphere, but i wouldn't worry about ground burst as they are used to take out hardened targets. There are none of those in MS.

Also there is alot of "doom and gloom" concerning nuclear war. Most of it isn't true. A nuclear war is quite survivable if you play your cards right. They're not nearly as many nuclear weapons pointed at us as there used to. They're still are lot, But this isnt the days of Ivan rushing through the fulda gap.

As long as your not caught in the first heat and blast wave, stay out of the fallout areas, or stay in shelters if you are in those areas you should be ok.

If it gets so bad that I know im going to go anyway someone just go ahead and load my pistol I'm sorry to say it but I'm not gonna sit around and die of radiation or from breathing in some sort of toxic chemicals or smoke.
