GunOneDown, BigSig, the wife, and I took a ride out into Louisiana waters on Saturday ... booms everywhere --- BUT, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the way they are being deployed. They were just scattered around the marsh ... some locations had a lot of boom in and around it, while others locations were void of any boom. In several locations the boom had washed-up onto the shoreline .... I do not understand how they expect to contain anything with the way they have things out there ....

the only way the booms work if they are solid around the area of oil and the waves are below 2-3 ft other wise the oil just goes over them.

I know why they are scattered about with no reasoning now.
These people who were hired to place them and got paid $1000 per day and higher depending on size of boat, were required only to lay out 100 feet of boom per day. Here is my theory, Get your 100feet, haul azz out there and throw it out and head back in. All your work is done in less than an hour and you collect 1k+. Some people would do right, but it appears there is no supervision on the placement of booms. It appears now though that somebody tighten the reins and are doing the layout in some type of order.
BTW, capt, Brush was closed Saturday when we were out there. Who knew. I found out Monday when we went fishing.

Are you sure it is 100 feet and not a 1000 feet of boom deployed for $1000/day....... Just asking. Although, a 1000 feet of boom would require a pretty big boat...........

HELL NO....... Mississippi doesn't need a hurricane. Due to the barrier islands Mississippi has been LUCKY so far to see little oil wash up on its beaches. A hurricane could really make a MESS of the Mississippi beaches.

I was being a SA...guess ya'll figured that out...it would not take much of a wave to wash the oil up anyway....

This is gonna turn into a major disaster it seems....condos empty even in Destin...my favorite coast relaxing spot

Sub, it was 100' cause I talked with some guys making the money.
one guy has 3 boats (various sizes) he be making $4700 /day.....
taxes gonna eat him alive though. they paying workers stupid money right now if you can get in on it. gotta pass a drug test first though. lots failed i heard.

there is a tropical depression out there that could come in the gulf. sure hope not.......

Rest assured, the money paid out to these contractors will be audited once the smoke clears....its going to be similar to the FEMA payments to contractors right after Katrina. Also the payments to fishermen will be deducted from their "Loss of Income Claims" that the $20B third party fund was set up for. There's no such thing as free money.

So you're saying the Captain has turned into a typical govament worker after only one day? And he was hauling butt down to the coast to grab his $1k in time to get back to the house before supper. Probably charging milage and meals too. Go get 'em Captain. We're all headed down the toilet anyway.

This might steer the discussion a different way....In my travels around the State...and I get around a good bit...I've found myself noticing BP stations more and more....Most of them are NOT Company owned they are independent....Many I see are pretty empty....I'd be hacked if I was a BP station owner right now...


The way I've had it explained to me is this:

If you filled a large home bath with water...and then took an eye dropper and dropped one drop of oil in the tub...that would be the effect the spill has had on the 7th largest body of water in the world...The Gulf of Mexico

It will get cleaned...might take an act of God to do it...but it will happen

I live on the beach and I have yet to see one drop of oil down here. I've gone on the boat just about every week since the spill happened and I have yet to see any oil. The media is doing more damage to the tourism than the actual oil is.
