Today, we went to the "Outdoorama at the Rez" which was held at the Turcotte Lab facility off Hwy.43 at the reservior. This was the first time for my family to attend and I have to say that a great time was had by all. The only complaint I have was that it just didn't last long enough. I was very impressed by the professionalism and courtesy that every event worker, exhibitor and wildlife officer extended to us while we were there. Several events were offered including fishing, canoeing, archery, skeet shooting, how to reload shotgun shells, just to name a few. They also had live exhibits that included turtles, alligators, snakes and live (rescued) birds of prey that are native to Mississippi. Children of every age were encouraged to participate in every event. Supervision and safety was first rate! A Wildlife officer at the skeet range even gave my 10 year old niece a "shootin' lesson" when she told him she had never shot a gun before. They made her feel comfortable enough about it that she was able to shoot skeet with a 20 guage! I would encourage anyone with children to attend this event next year with them. Here is a link to the events webpage.
