I was noticing my old stash of Missouri bullets had a very light bevel base to them. Then i started digging out other commercial lead bullets i had laying around. 90% of them was bevel base, only my Precision Bullets were plain base. I have read tons of info saying BB bullets are easy to load and easy on the eye for commercial casters. Down side i have read is lower accuracy and more leading. I actually have never had a issue with leading or poor accuracy from BB??
so i went and looked at a H&G mold chart and i would say its about 5-1 PB to BB bullets... Is BB only purpose to be easy on the commercial guys?? I need insight!

My take on PB vs BB cast bullets.............

I think the reason you see many more PB molds is the lubesizers used. Most casters use the RCBS or Lyman lubesizer. These type lubesizers don't work well with BB bullets because lube gets in the bevel.

To me, the advantages of BB bullets are......

1. Ease of loading. Sitting the bullet on the case.

2. Easier casting. More forgiving at filling out at the base of the bullet.

3. Nose feeding BB bullets in a Star is quicker. I still say all PB bullets should be sized base first, no matter what type of lubesizer used.

4. And yes, I think BB bullets just look better overall......

I always felt that plain based bullets were more accurate in cast pistol bullets than bevel based. At 25 yards the bullets will perform accurately if the base is filled in and sharp. The nose of the bullet can have a wrinkle in it and there is no difference in accuracy at 25 yards but accuracy will suffer at 50 yards unless the bullets are well filled in and sharp.
