Best? I dont know but, I have a Gamo Shadow that throws a .177 pellet out at 1000fps and has worked well on armadillos around my place. If I remember correctly I paid just north of $100 at Academy Sports about 10yrs ago for it.

If you’re willing to spend $500, look really hard at the Beeman R9/HW95 in .22 cal. These are very high quality guns with great triggers and they are built to last a lifetime. Fairly lightweight, hard hitting and very accurate. 22 cal is the way to go for squirrels. They’re tough and the bigger pellets perform noticeably better than the smaller 177’s. You can find the R9 for less than $500.

You can look online and have it shipped to your door, unless something changed! I have a gamo whisper that is around 1000 fps with a lead pellet, faster with those fancy ones. But not as accurate. It’s some really nice sites that sell most brands and tons of reviews.

edit; and armadillo doesn’t stand a chance just saying

Just a little repair tip, which probably doesn't apply to high-end guns but might be helpful to some of you. I have an old Benjamin .22 pump gun that I bought from one of my son's (adult) friends many years ago. I recently went to use it to dispatch a trapped possum and it wouldn't pump up. I killed the possum with a regular .22 rifle and then went about figuring out how to fix the Benjamin.

I found a YouTube vid that showed a quick fix. All that was required was to inject 90% rubbing alcohol into the pump chamber with a small-tipped plastic syringe, shake it up a bit and then cycle the pump, releasing the air every two or three pumps. It worked a treat! The alcohol apparently dissolved the old lubricant crud jamming the air valve.

This is no doubt not a substitute for a genuine rebuild, but it did get my old pump gun back in the game quickly and easily.

You will get a lot of recommendations and they all will be good based on the experiences of the 'recommender'. I don't know how long you have had yours or your experience with airguns but if you haven't been involved with them long I will remind you that spring-type airguns (break barrel, side lever, under lever) shoot differently than 22 rifles. If you haven't done so, look on youtube for videos on 'artillery hold', specifically
. You may find that your airgun is more accurate than you think. Also, all pellets don't shoot the same and accuracy can vary greatly between brands & types. Good luck..............

Interesting. I learned sharing new today.
Key take away from that fire me it's that the spring piston guns aren't well suited for hunting.

RT8 - On the contrary, many people hunt with springers. Many field trial matches have been and are won with springers (and that is a tough competition). The main point is to hold your springer very gently!!!!!!
