I am not new to firearms, but finally have the money to build the gun I have always wanted. Can someone please answer a couple of questions for me? What is the difference in a compensated barrel and a forward compensated barrel? And, what is the advantage of a muzzle-weighted barrel?

I am building a custom .22 for competition. This will be my first build from ground up and I could use all the guidance I could get. I plan to start with a Ruger Charger platform with a 12" barrel. But from there, I am a little uncertain.

Thank you anyhow.

Compensated has a device screwed or pinned to barrel to direct the escapeing gas flow, usually to the rear and sides. Forward compensated I don't know about. Maybe it directs the gas flow forward????

Muzzle weighted is heavier at the muzzle. Aids in stabalizing the weapon during off-hand shooting.
