i recently took my flash suppressor off of the muzzle of my AR so i could install a new free float tube and low profile gas block, but no matter how i try, i can not get the flash suppressor to line up right so that the unported part of it points down...is there some special trick to this?

Do you have the little washer that goes behind it? Don't mean to ask a dumb question like that but, hey, I been there too!

Did you forget the washer?

Use a new crush washer, tapering side goes toward receiver, spin the flash hider on by hand until it makes contact with the crush washer and then continue to tighten with a wrench until it's timed.
