I bought a LNIB SPS Tactical in 308 today on another forum. Got the Rifle, a Nikon 4X14X40 side focus with mildot reticle, EGW 20 MOA base, Med. Burris tactical rings and Harris Bi pod for 650.00 shipped. Now it's time to start upgrading lol. I'm going to keep the scope, base and rings for now, change out the hogue stock for a B&C medalist in tan/black spider webing and do a skim bedding, replace the XPro trigger with a Timney trigger and add a Wyatt's trigger Guard and detachable magazine assembly. Will post some pic when I receive the Rifle and after I'm finished upgrading kinda of a before and after thing.

Sounds like you stole it bro...guess I need to go hang out on a few more boards....

Nah....
Yeah,
I lucked up and ran across it on another board. The guy I bought it from is a big time M1a, M1 Garand Shooter and decided to try his hand at a long range bolt gun, said he learned real quick it wasn't for him. He only fired twenty rounds through the rifle and cleaned it after every shot for the first 10 rounds then fired two 100 yard 5 shot groups said both measured just under a inch, cleaned the rifle and placed it in his safe where it has sat for the last six months. The guy has good feedback on that board and post some pictures of some pretty amazing groups he has shot with his M1a's so I feel like I'm getting a good deal on a rifle with a lot of accuracy potential.

ive got one as well. im not happy with my nikon scope that is on it but as far ass out of the box accuracy i love it. i adjusted the trigger down and see no need in making any more mods to the gun. good steal bro! look forward to seeing the updates.

Sounds like you've got I real nice setup. I'm shooting something very similar to that now. You'll really enjoy the medalist stock. I'd seriously weigh the pros and cons of the detachable mag assy though. They're great if you have plenty of spare mags. Reloading on the move is nearly impossible if you only have the one mag

How hard is it to change to the removable magazine. I have one of these guns and that is one of the things I dislike about it. I've always had guns with drop out magazines and just can't get used to the factory design. I have a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x50 on mine and I'm not crazy about it either.

It's not hard the Wyatts is a drop in kit when using a B&C stock. You can buy the remington factory detachable mag trigger guard and mags for cheap on ebay or GB and it will fit the houge stock the rifle came with from the factory but you will have to do some small inletting to the sides of the stock where the mag snaps in to the mag well. Hogue, Hs, and Bell &Carlson make a stock that already has the cut for the detachable mag trigger guard but you will still need to buy the bottom metal.

Just curios, How many mags do you plan to keep on hand? If you run out of mags in a "stressful" situation you could be setting yourself up for disaster. Having to stop to load mags can slow you down to a snails pace. When the factory setup runs dry you can always load one at a time from the top (basically turning your rifle into a single shot). It's not as quick as popping in a fresh mags but it's MUCH quicker than stopping to load a mag before you can get back in the fight.

I'm not trying to talk you out of anything. Those detachable mag assemblies are pretty cool. They just may not be the most efficient solution in the long run.

Finally some pictures.
Here's the rifle as it came
.

Here's the rifle with the Bell & Carlson A3 stock. I skim bedded the action and it needed just a little sanding to free floated the barrel but turned out great. Now I'm waiting on my TPS base and rings to come in.

looks great!!! does the new stock have a detachable mag?
Thanks, no not yet thats a mag X-tender I took off another rifle till my other stuff comes in it changes mag capacity to eight, the Wyatts detachable mag and trigger guard are backordered along with my TPS 20 MOA base and rings. I will post some better pictures when the rest of my stuff comes in.

Crazy,
I bought the stock and bedding kit from www.stockystocks.com
and the mag Xtender came from midway. The scope and bipod came with the rifle.

Thats the same rifle I bought a lil over a month ago. it is a great shooter and gonna be a heck of a deer rifle. Mine likes the Nosler 150 gr Accubonds the best so gonna try them out this season on a few animals.

like the stock but one of the reasons I bought that model is cause of the stock just like the way it feels.

Looking good.

I noticed that you said that's a mag extender. Where did you get it? I've been considering adding one to my VTR. I'd like to find one made of aluminum but polymer may have to suffice. What do you think of it? Pros and cons?

I bought it a midway a few years ago. It works great, it's easy to install and it's made well . Only con I wish it was aluminum.

Nice looking setup...I've got an SPS Tactical in .223 that I've been wanting to toy with...even if she does shoot lights out right out of the box...I tried one of the new Bushnell Trophy XLTs on it to start with. Pretty nice scope for the money...got adj objective and BDC in it...like it so far...I like that stock too...
