Me and the fiance went out with a married couple we're friends with a little while ago(to hooters, where all good friendships are made, and where the blonde you knew from high school can save up for med/nursing school). We rarely ever see them, because they recently moved from a quarter mile from my home, to north Mississippi, but are in the process of moving back. And he starts at the academy in January and finishes in June. He's in some kind of reserve program
Anyway...my buddy just joined up as a reserve officer up there, and he brought up his dad inviting me over to teach me some stuff about reloading until I can get my own setup. So of course from there we started talking guns.
And then his wife mentioned a scary experience this morning when some crazy guy snuck up behind her at the gas station when she dropped her keys and tried to force her in her car and started screaming something at her(she was in a panic and didn't hear or can't remember). And while he was trying to shove her in the car, she started looking for her gun and remembered she took it out of the car for some reason and never put it back in. Thank God a retired highway patrolman was on the other side of the pump and stopped the guy and held him until the cops could show up!!!
I then said(not that I'm sure it wouldve helped in a surprise from behind situation like that) "that is exactly why I carry!" and my fiance started telling her about how she didn't like it at first but now she doesn't feel safe unless I have it, and plans on getting her FP as soon as she turns 21. Hearing a story like that from a friend will most likely make that decision more definite now!!
So from there we started discussing how long I'd been carrying and he asked if I had my permit and such and about the process I had to go through. And he then asked me about any of the restrictions, and to the best of my abilities I told him my understanding of the laws and that I couldn't carry in bars and such.
Since he's also able to conceal carry now I also gave him a few pointers, such as a good belt, and a few good holsters...he was shocked to learn that custom leather and other high end products are priced comparably to manufacturers like don Hume and galco and such. He's also wanting a .45 so I volunteered to let him bum one of mine at the range one day if he'd like! But his dept doesn't provide any ammo except 9 and .40.
This is a very pro-gun conservative guy, but I'm hoping that even though I couldn't quote anything word for word, that I was at least able to provide him with enough understanding to help him make more educated decisions if in a situation with a permit holder, which should help all of us law abiding citizens out!
