Good morning all,

This is what I need. I have 5400 pieces of LC 223 once fired brass. I sent it off and had it re-sized, trimmed and the primmer pockets cleaned. I am looking for someone local or within an hour or so to reload this. I have the primers and can get the rest of the stuff needed. I need to purchase someones time to put it all together.

I would have to agree with Doug. I would suggest "getting with someone" in your local area and have them show you how to do it - using their equipment, knowledge, etc. I have done this before for a few friends; however, I will not load it for them. Friends are friends until something really bad happens! Additionally, I will not let others shoot my reloads UNLESS I have shot them first in the gun they will be using. I usually will not shoot reloads from someone I do not know really, really well and know that they are well versed in proper reloading procedures.

With that much ready to load brass, the time may be right for you to invest in the equipment needed. Even if you only get 3 or 4 loads per piece, that is about 20,000 5.56 reloads --- load that many and you will probably pay for the equiment in short order.

Sorry to pour cold water on your post, but without a manufacture's license, liability insurance, etc., I would be hard pressed to load for another individual.

I am sure that are several members close to the V'burg area that would help you choosing equipment and lending their knowledge to get you going down the right path to reloading your own.

Thanks for the fast replies. I will send it to a licensed manufacture. I sure don't want to get anyone into any trouble. That's why I ask the question. I was hoping one of the experts would share there knowledge.

Not Doug -- but the OP stated he would pay for someone's time --- doing it for profit would probably cross the line between just being friends and a manufacture .... I would not like to have to defend it in court IF the BATF thinks differently!!

Not really - I've got a MG shoot to go to in March and need it to play with a HK23E.

Yep, its all once fired MG brass. It started out as Lake City M855 62 grain. I sent the raw brass to GSS Competition in WV and had them re-size, trim and clean out the primmer pockets. Now its ready to reload.

If you loaded that much and took a fee for your labors, you would legally be an ammunition manufacturer. You have to have a federal license to manufacture ammunition.

Ditto Doug´s remarks. BATFE would be able to jump on that if they wanted to. Get with someone in your area who will let you load it under their supervision, you pay for the components you use. If you have that much brass / need that much ammo, you would be well-served to start reloading. Or at the very least trade that brass for loaded ammo, ie, barter.

Understand before you read this I am sending the ammo to a licensed manufacture for reloading. This is just information I found.

Ok guys this is what I found from reading the BATF website and my copy of ATF Pub 5300.4:

Q: May a person licensed as a manufacturer of firearms also manufacture ammunition?

Yes. The person may also manufacture ammunition (not including destructive device ammunition or armor piercing ammunition) without obtaining a separate license as a manufacturer of ammunition.

Q: Is a person who reloads ammunition required to be licensed as a manufacturer?

Yes, if the person engages in the business of selling or distributing reloads for the purpose of livelihood and profit. No, if the person reloads only for personal use.
[18 U.S.C. 922(a) (i) and 923(a), 27 CFR 478.41]

This is how I read this. I the person reloading does not do it as a means of livelihood and profit they can reload.
Second, a person licensed as a manufacturer,07FFL correct, can manufacture ammo without any additional license. I have a current 07FFL, so the person reloading the ammo would be working for me and per the ATF website, http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/manufacturers.html#ammo-reloading, it would be legal.

I mean no disrespect with my reply, just posting the info I found per the BATF.
