I loaded a few 30-06 today to take to the range tomorrow. My Lyman 50th Anniversary reloading manual shows the following:
Bullet - Sierra 125GR SP #2120
Powder - Win 748
Start Load - 51.5 GR, Vel 2890fps, Pressure 35300 CUP
Max Load - 58 GR, Vel 3241fps, Pressure 48300 CUP

I was looking for a mild load so I charged each cartridge with 52 GR expecting just over 2900fps.

A few minutes ago I decided to look at Winchester's website and saw the following:
Bullet - Sierra 125GR SP #2120
Powder - Win 748
Max Load - 51.0 GR, Vel 3060fps, Pressure 46000 CUP

My manual shows 51.5GR being the starting load and the website shows 51GR being the MAX load. WHAT TO BELIEVE?

Anyone have other loading manuals that show data for 30-06 using125GR bullet with Win 748 powder?

Which manual is newer? That's the one to go with to start. Changes in powder (however slight) and better testing methods are typically why the powder is reduced in newer manuals to meet the older specs.
To meet lawyer specs not firearm or ammunition specs.

Argue if you like. Since I don't own pressure equipment, I'll take their word for it.
Argue or opinion. Love how if its in opposition its argument . 🤦‍♂️

I'll run with my quickload program.

Yeap…Hornady’s is the worst at that!
Exactly you get it.

I show with a 20" barrel and 52 grains 748, 38,379psi for pressure and 2751fps velocity.
With 58grains 52,732psi, 3057 fps.

Max pressure 30-06 =60k

What's the COAL? Quickload is showing lower pressure at 58g than Gordon's but the seating depths may be different.

catridge length=3.34"
seating depth=.044"
bullet length=.890"
case length=2.494"

I have not studied up on 30-06 so I just punched in the bullet and powder.

The two programs while close are definitely using slightly different algorithms. Using the same parameters as quickload for 58g of win 748 Gordon's generates:

Max press - 50587 psi
Muzzle velocity - 2983 fps

Gordon's also generates a warning that the seating depth of .044 is too small for the selected load.

Did a little more searching on the old interweb this morning and a couple of sites said that the data on the Hodgdon/Winchester site is BS for that particular load and not based on any real testing. One of the responders said that he contacted Hodgdon and they never actually tested the combination. Said that the info was based on some old Winchester data. Who knows. Did find more data on a couple of other websites that was similar to Lyman's data. I believe one was Nosler and don't remember the other. Made me feel better about the load. Took it to the range and it shot very mildly with no signs of overpressure.

FWIW Gordon's Reloading Tool shows 58.0 gr of win748 with the sierra 125 sp to be approaching max pressure. That's with a COAL of 3.22. It's just another tool I use to cross reference against published load data.

I am going to have to look into this site. OAL on the cartridges I loaded was 3.080" as shown in the manual.
