Does anyone else have one? My dad just gave me his and I can only find some info about it on the internet. This was the first 12ga I ever shot and I grew up shooting it but never really thought twice about the gun. From what i've found its one of the first semi autos made after the war and it was discontinued in 1968. The gun is in perfect shape with maybe 200 rounds through it in it's life. Any info is helpful. Thanks.

I got one in 20ga. First shotgun I bought and it was old then. It's kinda cool how the barrel comes back to eject the spent round. Let somebody shoot it and stand back 20yds or so to see it in action. Only down side I found was mine broke 2 firing pins since I've had it and it's had thousands of rounds through it with almost no bluing left on it.

They are popular. Recoil operated like the Remington model 11 and Browning a-5. I worked on one for a guy, a 20 gauge, when I tested it, it surprised me how the little thing kicked. I have heard from owners that still use them for deer and rabbit hunting. I would hold one to it.

John Browning design. Same as a Browning A-5
Remington was licensed to make them in the USA
osiek, I think it was the Remington Model 11 that was licensed to Remington from Browning.

I inherited a Remington 11-48 from a dear neighbor at his passing. 30" full choke 12 ga. It will literally "salt your eyes" when you shoot it - I just take it out every-once in a while to fondly remember my neighbor and wonder how in the heck he could shoot it..... Great guns but would kick you side ways

Nevertheless, Never stand over 11-48 or A-5, Franchi or any other recoil operated shotgun and push down on barrel. It may go far enough to cock and slam fire on release. Safety 1st.
Heard of a guy who blew his head off. Coroner thought it was suicide, but finally ruled accidental, much to the widow's relief.

I have an 11-48, 16 ga that my dad won for selling the most shotgun shells one year for a wholesale grocer in Arkansas when I was about 15. It's still about 90% on the metal and 75 on the wood. I'm 76 now and it still shoots good. Got rabbits, quail and ducks with it. Your thread brought back a lot of memories. When I saw this thread I had to tell about it. Thanks Bill
