Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine…

Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine, Tube fed model. Customer said it was found in a barn after the death of a family member, rusted. He initially took it and had it Cerakoted and the cracked Stock repaired, there is substantial pitting under the Cerakoting, I suspect it’s had a hard life. He was having trouble with it extracting & ejecting. Did a quick initial function check, apathetic extraction and ejection, at best. The Safety was also very worn and loose. Disassembly, took me a while because the Extractor Pivot Pin was loose and had worked it’s way out the top of the Bolt. First thing I did was use an 800 grit .44 Flex-Hone to smooth out the very rough Chamber. Then into the sonic cleaner. I had none of the parts I needed so I put in an order for an Ejector, Extractor, Extractor Pivot Pin, Extractor Spring, Slide Spring, Safety, Safety Detent Plunger and Safety Detent Plunger Spring. Function checked and test fired.

What did the bore look like Mr. Van? Just curious.

On a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a a 5 at best.

I've never owned either of the two versions of Ruger's .44 Mag carbines, but have idly checked the used prices over the years. The last time I checked - many years ago - they were going for around $500 to $600. I was shocked to check the prices recently and see that they're commonly going for $900 to $2000, the latter price for mint specimens with original box and paperwork.

I don't have any practical need for one - as if that's ever stopped me from buying a gun - but I'd still like to have one. Maybe if the stars are aligned correctly some day, one will find its way into my collection.

Wow I had no idea they were that expensive now. I guess I should hold on to mine.

Joe, I only surveyed those prices on Gun Broker and as we all know those prices tend to be 10% higher (or more) than what we see in Mississippi. I use Gun Broker much like I use eBay as a price gauge: i.e. you know it's going to be too expensive, but it can put you in the ballpark.
