I love snub nosed large frame pistols. I loved my dan wesson in 357 but I have been drooling over the idea of one in 44 mag for a while. Well today while at vans I see the one I NEED!! It is a ruger redhawk alaskan. 2.5"/ 3" barrel, 44 mag hand cannon on a big ol frame! Man what a gun! That would make a perfect backwoods companion when a 357 just aint enough. Add another one to my "list". Lol

Never seen the Ruger but have seen Smith's .500mag with a 4in barrel on their x-frame. BIG gun.

That one gets me going too but I really like the 44 mag. Smith also makes a pistol that looks like a medium frame in a 44 mag short barrel. Its pretty sweet too. Almost concealable like a j frame!

My brother has one. It's a blast, I mean a rush to shoot! Fine weapon.

I've been wanting an Alaskan for years but can't justify spending the money on one. I suppose if I were concerned about a rogue grizzly bear trying to have me for lunch I'd reconsider. That's not much of a problem in Mississippi though.

Get one and you'll never get rid of it. I have heard that magnums won't get up to full velocity out of a snubby but never seen it in writiing.

I've chrono-ed a wide variety of rounds. The percentage drop off from a 4" to a 2 1/2" is not very much.

It a bad gun, but if you want wood factor, u need to get an X-Frame S&W to experience the full power in the hand action. .460 & .500 are Awesome.

I'm too invested in the 44 to switch. But yea that would be cool in a 2.5" model

Get the .460 S&W Mag and u can shoot .45 LC, .454 Casull, & .460 S&W Mag all in the same gun.

That same Alaskan Ruger is also chambered in 454 Casull.... ouch, that thing must be a bone crusher. Luckily it will also chamber 45 Colt.

Yeah, that is the best thing since sliced bread. Would own something 4" or longer but to each his own. Carry your bad self up to Alaska and get close up to one of them grizzlies. I had a free flight and we went up to Alaska. 1500 yards was as close as I'd get to one. Don't forget to file down that front sight so it won't hurt so bad when he shoves it up your.....
